teach <character name> <skill or spell> I've heard of this only today, to my surprise. (That's a lie. I did, but I thought only magickers used it.)
Anyone know if it's worth building RP around? How effective? What time-frame? Can it be used to impart skills outside your starting set?

If you are really close together in level on a skill, it doesn't seem to work.
For example, I've seen cases where I have Master <whatever skill> and try to teach someone with Advanced <whatever skill> and they get an echo which says, "The don't seem to know anymore than you do." So even though I was verbally ahead of them, it appeared as if teach imparted nothing on their skill. They had been at advanced for a while so it's possible they were close to a verbal increase (same guild, they were definitely capable of reaching master.)
Perhaps within 10 or 5 points it doesn't work, or barely works. Or only sometimes.
This was also a combat skill scenario. I believe it was dual-wield. Not sure if that makes any difference or not.

With a master dual wielder teaching new recruits twice a rl week, they will be able to reach journeyman within ... two rl weeks or so. There are obviously more variables to that. Amount of sparring, amount of members, etc. But generally speaking, teach is extremely powerful.

No, languages can only be learned and then improved by listening to someone with a higher skill in it than you.

In my time, I've seen teach be used by a mentor on a pupil after a session (sparring or crafting, in a GMH) where the pupil didn't get a fail, and didn't get a skill-up. In my opinion, teach is great and certainly better than the alternative.
Recruit: Merchant, I've been scraping hides all month but I don't think I'm getting any better. Merchant: time for you to try to scrape that hide with your fucking fingernails scrub. branch soon or ill kill you

Teach is great for helping your crew not holding up RPTs for hours becuase they can't ride for shit. Or making them stay out of the RPT. You expect them to practice a little when you're not around but if they still get stuck all the time a little boost is sometimes all they need to be able to keep up. Do a little thing about posture or how to control the reins or make them roleplay a turn on the road, apply a teach, let them try a little more, and at least they won't keep falling off.

I think it stops working for skills above novice, I've had bad ass teachers it said knew the same as me. Last I knew this was the case. The student used to receive a message if they were above the cap saying something to the effect that they didn't really learn anything new. If there isn't a message anymore, it's possible the cap's been raised/removed.

We need a teach skill to get up higher to teach others how to do things. Setting the limit to apprentice is lame, and my numbers would be better if I could learn how to be skilled from a dude who had skill.
People who abuse the command would lose the ability to use it. It's a simple check to make, I understand.

Teach can get people barely into high apprentice.
I honestly never bothered using it, except where bandage and such was concerned. Players who I used teach to impart combat skills to, seemed to advance as fast, or even slower, as players I never did with.
