I've never tried to play a mage in the North. Can you walk around with invisible spell effects on as there isn't anyone to see that you have the effects without outing themselves as a mage? I understand visible effects would be adeath sentence, but I was curious how difficult it is to be an undercover mage in the north?

Be smart and don't wear buffs in the city.

Think about it, there are no 'mages' to see invis people in Tuluk, then why hasn't Allanak sent an army of Whirans to slay all. Let's assume they have countless other ways of catching you. For obvious starters, Tuluk is filled with rangers and assassins who have a pretty nice scan skill. Not to mention, the Templarate in the North is sort of known for their mental abilities.

scan and invisibility has nothing to do with it. There are spells you can have that are not obvious unless you can see magickal effects. Tuluki templarate can see them.
More then that. If you compare the odds of a mage staying unknown in Allanak and Tuluk. The chances of him remaining unknown in Tuluk are significantly lower then in Allanak. So ... have fun!

Playing a mage in Tuluk protips: - Barrier -always- - Don't cast in the city - Don't have any effects on you in the city - If you're running around the Grasslands killing shit, use a mount. - Don't have a goddamn mdesc/sdesc that screams IM A MAGICKEEERRR WEEEEE Also don't have anything about it in background or bios. Period.

This is the only reason I don't play in Tuluk. Being able to read a bio is fucking toxic to the plots and schemes of the game. No one has a chance to get to the betraying.

With the previous Templar in the north, did they rely on reading backgrounds/psionics, or did some of them have magick as well?

Psionics. Last templar I knew of that had magick was Ender's old dick that would only show up for RPTs.

Saw an NPC Jihaen templar scream about mages and chase an invisible whiran once. It didn't look like an animation, just the same kind of script used for arresting criminals but with mages instead.

Qoriya had the bio-reading-power and she would just immediately read the bios of anyone whose sdesc she didn't recognize as she saw them in the Sanctuary.
That sort of thing may still be happening with new Templars, but I'm not certain.
