I don't think any discussion will hold water. These forums actively shares vast swathes of information about the game, breaking a cardinal rule. What valid arguments are made here will be dismissed because of it, just as has happened in the past when there were problems with the IRC channel. How many players were involved in sharing information, plotting off-game the assassination of characters such as Riandra, Ysania, Pearl and various others. For my part of things, at least, this is why even though I have plenty of information (a few dozen players regularly talk to me about their current exploits), I refuse to give out any information which could conceivably screw with anyone's living character or anyone's active plots. It just seems like the kind of thing that can be pointed to as why people are here, and a good place to blame when someone gets their panties in a twist about anything that could possibly be fobbed off on anyone but a very specific player or staff member in question when staff gets a disgruntled player on their hands over something in-game. |

Ousting Nyr would be pointless, both because it's likely impossible and because there might not be anyone else capable of leading the game. It's not something just anybody can do, you need to know a lot of little things that you don't really just pick up along the way as a regular admin. You also need access to all sorts of things, details for the datacenter it's hosted at, all kinds of shit that makes it difficult for somebody to take over unprepared. Considering the kind of person he is, it's unlikely that he has been teaching this stuff to somebody else.
So revolution aside, if anyone were genuinely interested in doing something about the state of the game, they should consider contacting staff about running a more concerted and official plotline. Probably shouldn't be someone who's banned or hated, naturally, but a group of people who aren't pariahs yet. Propose something original and worthwhile, something that'll involve a lot of players and actually get the gears moving again. I seriously don't think anything like that has happened since the Copper War, an event that drew in the whole world and where players mattered (somewhat).
Rather than the tiresome light shows that the events in recent years have been, it should be something that almost every type of character has both reason and opportunity to be part of. Staff should mediate but not direct it, and it'll be a challenge to pull off because it would need to be both sufficiently prepared to run well and also flexible enough to not feel beyond player influence. It would probably involve special-apped storyline characters and a pitched plan.
If approached in a constructive and formal manner, there's a remote chance that the staff would be open to discussing such a thing. If they won't, I think the game is truly fucked and will never recover from the mire of apathy and stagnation that it has sat in for the last three or four years. If nothing else, it'll serve to determine if there really is no hope left for Armageddon. I think it's clear by now that the staff is out of ideas and might even welcome some player initiative, something that has clearly been lacking in recent years.

When they're literally echoing to actively force people to stop roleplaying so they can turn around and watch the imms jerk off, we have achieved ridiculous. Their job should be nothing more than to set up a colorful, believable world and then have that world react to the players, not force the players into their vision of what the world should be. Imagine where Zalanthas would be now if the players had actually been driving the evolution of it for the last ten years. Instead, they're apparently more focused on micromanaging players and monitoring this board, ban hammer held at the ready. If I ran my D&D campaigns like they run this mud, all my players would have walked out on me years ago. Pretending this board doesn't even exist is probably the absolute worst thing they can do. |

1. One where only the taverns exist and all you do is sit around and talk in the tavern and get Karma for it.
2. One where something actually happens, like in the good old days.
