South (Red Storm, Allanak, Rinth) - Slashing & Dual Wield North (Luirs, Tuluk) - Chopping, Shield Use Guild is the primary influence of these skills. If you don't got slashing, you don't get a slashing bonus. Starting location just gives you a static bump. For most guilds, this bump is enough to increase you by one "level". Edited to add: These are based off of the documentation about fighting styles where Northerners like heavy armor because of their slightly cooler environment while Southerners prefer light armor and dual wielding weapons because it's too hot to wear heavy armor all day. I really wish there was more code in the game that made these docs practical, because as far as I can tell, in a fight between even opponents, the fighter with the shield and the heavy armor will usually win...
