What MUD client do you use and why? What features does it have? Additionally, what kind of scripts / macros / etc. do you find most helpful? (For example, in drunkendwarf 's Dargan logs he was using a script which inserted a player's name next to their sdesc, and some kind of "raid" command/script which swapped a generic term "target"(?) for a name or keyword. I'd be interested to know more.) And the final question, since I'm sure a lot of you do/have played on Proxies, I'd like to hear a bit about what people do for that. I used to have an alternate fuck-about with which I would access using ZMud and a socks 4 or 5 proxy from any of the common free proxy sites you find googling. It was always a bit laggy, but functional. Last I tried, I couldn't even get ZMud to connect to Arm with this method. Not sure if it's a problem with the MUD client, the proxy server, or if Ginka has somehow been able to block proxy traffic. Any advice on this front?

So, this makes all of my computers requests go through the proxy? Turn it on, play, turn it off? Very cool... Thanks man, I can't decide if I want to steal a templars dagger or run nekid through a wezer den first!

I wish I had access to proxies back when I was Arming from uni. I've spent weeks looking for free proxies and just gave up.

Free proxy servers are pretty great if you have no cash.
What will fuck you is that even if you're using a proxy on your browser, there is an alert that comes up any time you go to use the request tool that it's trying to log your IP, and may be able to. At least with every proxy browser extension I've found. Which will, for the most part, (potentially) out you in the case of any clanned role or any role that you have to use a request on/with/for.

Definitely not the world's worst idea to log out of Arm.org and Zalanthas.org when you're being sneaky and proxy-like just in case they have some way of tracking /logging your account cookies.
However, the tool oldtwink linked to is download, install, fire up and ALL of your PC's traffic gets routed through a proxy. Browser, mud, etc. Very cool tool.

If you're serious about your incognito play, you should pay the like $5/month or whatever for an unlimited VPN connection. The free ones always have some kind of catch, either it'll drop your connection every few hours or come with a data limit like Privatetunnel. Don't use the GDB through a proxy, though, as they tend to be flagged from spambot usage and they'll know you're a multiplayer and/or will ban your forum accounts.
I've used proxies in the past, but these days I'd honestly suggest that if you're at the point where you don't want people to know it's you playing, you should just consider not playing at all. It's barely worth the trouble considering the state of Armageddon, and if things have got so bad for you that you need to hide, it's probably time to try something else instead. On the other hand, if you still actually enjoy and respect the game, you shouldn't be multiplaying.

This is why I just got an app going on Black Sands mud and haven't played Arm in months. I tried, but I think you'll find the same sort of depressing experience that I did if you're to the point where you genuinely -need- to use a proxy to play.

It's more likely they compare the ip address you make/use your account with vs the client. It's likely really suspicious when you're switching ips in different countries, and the fact that unless you're just playing two characters in isolation from each other, it's pretty easy to see who is benefiting.

Nah, I'm not trying to do serious multiplay. Every once in a while I get an urge to do something fuck-headish, like run into a wezer dome to see the script (not implemented, they just drop you on the ground until you stand up and walk back out), or walk into that ominous room that you would never risk going into if you wanted to actually live. Alty is an explorer, not a PKiller, not a griefer, and not a plot joiner or main account assister. To that end, I don't care if its obviously being played over a proxy, because I only do it every once in a while, and for a short period of time.
But, back to the earlier parts of the question - who's using what MUD-client wise? I've always used GMUD because it was my first MUD Client from my newb days. It's rather simple (which I personally don't mind). You've got macros, triggers, aliases, and logging. It's simple and effective.

I'm old school. tintin++.
The "raid" command you refer to simply set the value of the variable "target" to whatever I supplied. I had several aliases that used that variable to make things easy like 'fire <direction>' was aliased to "shoot <target> <direction>", Similiarly "toss <direction> was aliased to "throw <weapon_set_with_another_variable> <target> <direction>" or whatever the syntax is for throw. So I'd have to use the 'raid' command to set the value. I had several other aliases referencing the "target" variable. The "script" you see where I had people's names tacked onto the end of their sdesc was just substitutions with wild cards at work. It made it very easy to pick people out in a bunch of spam.
Here was Dargan's tt++ coms file in all its glory:
And for grins, here's my nilazi:

#VARIABLE {shit} {black.granite.ring} Do... I even want to know, or.... ? Lol. Otherwise, very nice scripts man. I like what you did with the spells, building the spell level in. My own spell aliases look like "c sul fireball <target>", but I only ever build in the higher level spells. I also love the idea of setting a keyword to "target." I'm probably going to DL TinTin and fuck with it a bit.

Proxies kind of suck. Get a VPN for a small yearly price and you are golden. My VPN has servers all over the world that I can connect to with simple software I install on my computer and it literally shows you are coming straight from there. It's awesome. No lag either.

MUSHClient + tor. polipo can, i believe, act as a socks proxy.
