Southlands, EOE?

Wow. I've not quite caught up on these posts. But I will say this. A lot of people are making a lot of assumptions, and they certainly never asked me or Jazet about any of them. As for the skinning knife question, there is an actual IC reason for them being hard to find, even though they're very easily craftable. But if you don't actually look into it, you're never going to find the answer. And it's actually a very sound IC reason. Actually. (Though, even though that IC reason exists, with proper roleplay in the right areas, we would still load one.) However, I'm not going to say much about IC stuff right here, humans haven't even been open for a year yet.... and still, too much is new.

Okay.... honestly, I want to form a good response that includes so many of the questions here. But I'm kind of stunned right now and don't want to just be flippant or dismissive about these things. So I hope you'll all be okay with letting me think about my reply, and speak with our other (two) staffers before I do. I want to be clear, but I also don't want to reveal things that I shouldn't.

I do want to say that "Natvasar" is a really unfair label. Avasar just changed leadership after an internal struggle, and Nathiria Nadu is... well honestly, our longest played human right now, so if you don't think she would have made contacts/connections/deals, I don't know what to say. I will say, because I need her to know these posts exist, that I don't blame her, and think her rp is fine. Really some of the best I've ever seen on our MUD (she's also played elves). I know you guys won't like that, but it's true, and I won't throw a good player under the bus for the things that are posted on this forum, even though I value the sentiments very much. And... *laugh* No, she is not me. BUT I do understand why the distrust lies with administrators after all I've seen. So I don't blame any of you either. If you want to know who I play, just ask. I'll kind of give you at least a hint, but I can't believe that the answer would really suprise anyone.

There are also going to be cases where people cry out: "Staff Avatar"! But, when they're actually dealing with an NPC, they don't always know it, and I don't think they should.

I'm going to go through this thead and answer as many questions as I can, but I need to be on for our peak time right now, so I'll get to this tomorrow.

LOVE the RPI community... and hope that one day, people will see our differences in others and understand them... even enjoy them. And if not, I'll consider that our failing.

My suggestion would be to write a primer or a guide about how interaction with staff is not the same as on other games like Armageddon or SOI. That it's more collaborative and you expect players to wish up when they need things ICly. That's probably the strangest thing I'd have adjusting too and having some kind of codified guidelines would certainly help.

One thing is that kind of system is something where a player who has more experience using that system of interaction has an advantage over newer players. They know what they can ask for, when they can ask for it, and know how to interact with NPCs/PCs in such a way to promote their agenda. Newer players don't even know they can ask for knives at shops without knives. Thus creating the perception that certain characters are staff favoured?

Anaiah: You're an incredible roleplayer. Honestly, I've been floored by you many times, even shocked as to where you went with your pc. Nothing you did IG got you banned. Basically, I just ask people to respect the work, and after awhile, we felt like you simply couldn't do that, and really, a MUD should be collaborative in our opinion, but I can't really say that we had much communication aside from objects that you submitted for crafting (which I really appreciate, by the way! Thank you so much for the things you submitted for Sundown!). You really just came here and said we sucked. And I'm fine with people saying we suck, actually. It teaches us so much.  But honestly, who wants to work for someone who thinks you suck all around and yells about it from the highest mountain top?  I don't think anyone does, and the headache that caused is why you were banned. I would absolutely -love- to have you back.  Strong female players make me super happy.  

I would encourage people to TALK to us.  We want people to have -fun-.  That's what we get our rocks off on.    If people are totally into their characters, that's what makes us happy.  So if you can't do that for any reason, we just want to reiterate, let's talk!  I'll tell you anything that I can without revealing IC information too quickly.

I just want to say this.... Anaiah, you are a great roleplayer.  Any MUD would be lucky to have you.  So I hope that you go into your next MUD, or any MUD, with that knowledge, and that you don't feel like you've really done anything wrong IC'ly, and you don't need to feel anything that looks like insecurity.  I think you're kind of masterful in your character development... and you're willing to really put yourself out there, which is kind of rare!  So in your MUDding endeavors, I hope that you find that thing that truly makes you happy and excited to log in, and if it's not us, it's our loss, not yours.

EoE is the only place where you can get awesome RPTs that feels VERY EXCITING and DANGEROUS. Like SERIOUSLY DANGEROUS. If you have a great story plot to kill like the entire race, I'm sure the staff would be very happy to read it and then tease you about it afterwards. I get teased a lot.
