Hey there. I'm still a bit of a nooblet, but two questions mechanics-wise have eluded me, despite searching for the answer. The first: If I have a thief with the rebel subguild, do I have the maximum possible sneak in both urban and desert environments? Or do I only have the normal maximum from my subguild when I'm in desert environments?
My other question: How would one smuggle spice past the Allanaki guards, mechanically? What would a typical 'route' look like for a spice smuggler? (Buying from foragers in Red Storm, going to Allanak, selling for higher to a supplier.) Again, its not the concept that eludes me, but the specific mechanics.

I assume when you say thief you mean pickpocket. Your highest maximum will apply, there is no special skillcap distinction for specific styles of sneak, only so long as you can sneak. So your sneak max for pickpocket will apply to outdoors since you've got rebel. Sort of a lame question to find out OOC, but I'll give you a hint. The code isnt very complex. Look at how the guards look through things. As for routes, there are ways into Allanak aside from the typical entrances, but they generally require a stronger PC and considering you're a newbie, skill ranks/experience you dont have. I'd say the majority of smugglers simply sneak things past the guards. Get creative with it. And look at it this way, eh, if you get caught, so what. You get to have some fun times with Templars

(Buying from foragers in Red Storm, going to Allanak, selling for higher to a supplier.) Again, its not the concept that eludes me, but the specific mechanics. The ways I've done it involved magick, having it stowed on a wagon, or bribing someone in the Militia. I think you might be able to hide/sneak passed but I honestly don't remember. As far as the route, there really isn't one. People buying worthwhile amounts of spice, i.e. nobles and GMH employees, want knots and the only way to get knots is to get it from Kurac, afaik the only way to make a knot is using custom code Kurac has.

Sorry if the question came across as lame. What I really wanted to know was if there was perhaps some sort of "Secret Compartment" skill perhaps with slight of hand. The real question was "mechanically, what options do I have", so I just decided to keep it very broad. I was envisioning being searched and somehow not being caught.

I thought guards only searched your pack, cloak and inventory. I've smuggled in poisons (although I dont know if they search for these) by putting them in boots/bags

They pat down wear locations, not objects exactly. They don't check feet or head. Pocket boots or headbands are good for sneaking things in past gate guards.

If you roll a pickpocket/burglar/assassin with a rebel subguild, you will be able to sneak in both urban and wilderness environments. The great thing to remember is that your wilderness cap will be associated with your main guild's cap for urban environments, meaning if you have 95 sneak with a pickpocket, you'll be able to sneak with 95% effectiveness in wilderness environments.
Any city guild with sneak and hide plus rebel/hunter/scavenger would be a great combination, though if I were you I'd go with hunter for obvious reasons.
As for sneaking in spice, follow mekillot's advice for grains, otherwise there is one secret underground route you can access in the Pah, though it can at times be quite treacherous to traverse the underground tunnels what with the sewer horror and all.

You'd have to go see it for yourself. It's basically a silt horror if I remember correctly but, y'know, in the sewers. Always steered clear of that asshole.

Or you can just throw yourself down like a scrub.
The fall won't kill you and there's nothing around you'll need to climb to escape.
Also, the sewer horror is back? Haven't seen that bastard down there since the lava flooded te sewers forever ago.
