I have always been fascinated by (wait for it) -= Ravenloft =- I would love more of a dark gritty gypo filled Barovia. It would have the magic or lack of if need be from the rulers, the control of travel, a lot of danger especially after the sun falls. Undead, good or evil PC's depending on your POV, and tons of room for expansion.
Sorry I can't type more, I may later.

I've been tossing around the idea of compiling simple DIKU and opening a sandbox-type RPI. Where everybody creates a character that has a background as being a demigod. Very difficult to kill but not impossible. The game would be very PK driven but not many PKs would actually occur because killing another demigod would be very difficult.
Each character would have the capability to use OLC (online creation) in their home realms to basically build their own areas. You could invite others to your realm and they could teleport in. This is where you are very powerful and could possibly kill another demigod, so it would be a huge trust thing to go into another persons realm or to fight them in their home realms.
God Wars 2 is very similar to this idea but GW2 is completely PK driven with no RP and no IC/OOC. I would really love to see a GW2 theme as an RPI.
Anyway just an idea as I was daydreaming at work. Staring at code for 4 hours will do that to you.

Delerak, I love that idea. I would love to get in on that if you start it up.
mm, I've never played in Ravenloft but heard good things and sounds interesting.

I'm still hashing most of my ideas out. A few issues I have with the concept so far.
-Progression needs to be decided. I really wouldn't want players just entering the game powerful, but I also wouldn't want them entering the game weak and getting ganked by more powerful players. I'm thinking maybe the main city would actually be a "peace" realm where the gods cannot attack one another but can train their powers. Or it could just be a city that is watched over by an all powerful god.
-I would want permdeath to really have meaning. How do you do that when you're an all powerful deity?
-The main focus of the game would be giving complete control and power over to players. Hence giving them OLC (online creation) so they can basically form their own home world. I think a lot of my concepts come from GW2 already as I played there for a bit and loved the way KaVir implemented a lot of his stuff, the big deal breaker was no RP, no story really to go along with all those great feature and code.

Sounds interesting, and I have to say I agree there. If not for the np RP aspect, I would have loved the premise and idea behind GW2, from what I read of it.

Not really. Just an idea still. League of Legends takes up all my free time for the most part as I'm practicing for a tournament and getting ready for season 4. But I still want to do a mud if I ever get the motivation to do it.
Another idea I had for a good RPI would be a dystopian future where every player starts out as a 15 year old military trainee in a program for super soldiers. If you couldn't hack the physical training you get put into the special projects division for telekinetic studies or something silly. That way you have a combat side for those players and a mental/magic type side for the other players. Political intrigue would be graduating the academy and moving on to the main city. The cool part is newbies would be instantly thrown into a training environment.

That is a cool idea, but players will rebel against having to start every PC in training. Just think of how long it takes the average Arm noob to start griping about having to start all over at novice with every PC. Usually there, the argument is "My background says I'm a badass, so I should be a badass." Making every PC have a noobish background avoids that argument, but it will just annoy players more by forcing them to play a certain type of PC.
Not trying to stir up shit, just saying, you will probably want to think up alternative chargen options for more experienced players, because they will inevitably demand it. I like the advantage that it would have of concentrating players in an interactive environment right from the start, but that comes at the price of player freedom.

There's absolutely no reason that there couldn't be an unlock for more experienced guys to skip the training academy in that mud idea. It's pretty perfectly suited for it even.

Well it's the setting more than anything. Want to play outside of the academy? Fine but you better have a damn good reason. EVERYBODY goes thru that place. So you would basically have it in your background but not going thru it is just going to make you miss out on the main objective of the game. Sandbox like. People couldn't suicide their PCs and such. You'd come out trained and ready to tackle the problems of the future.

What about a MUD akin to the walking dead? That would be tight. Or even merge up several different movie names together. 28 Days Later, Walking Dead, I am Legend, or even throw in some Resident Evil and Old School Dawn of the Dead.
