I would like to begin working on a new mud, to be an RPI, where there are player clans, player housing, you can build boats, wagons, homes, buildings, lease various hirelings from prostitutes to shopkeepers and back again, and player clans can even sack cities. About 90% of the necessary code is in place for this already, though I'm just now looking into beginning to do some building with it.
If anyone has coding experience with java (and apparently an offshoot of rhino?) and wants to sign on to help with a few things, that'd be wonderful.
If anyone wants to try and get in on a possible (likely, even) new mud as a builder, or coder... please feel free to reply here or send me a private message here.
If anyone has ideas about things other than what is listed above that they'd like to see in an RPI, feel free to post here or send me a message.

Hit me up. I've got plenty of experience with this stuff.

Why not collaborate with Barka or his buddy? I'm sure they'd love to have you.

Eh. A lot of people want to do their own thing and I get that. Creative control. It's sort of life telling a fish not to swim. Once they've been out of the water for a while they see the suffocation and just say fuck it.

I just think if former arm players came together they could make something truly special. This sort of fragmentation is never good because people will more than likely abandon their projects, e.g. you.

Why not collaborate with Barka or his buddy? I'm sure they'd love to have you. Most of the world is built already, and while there are a lot of really awesome staff features that can be used for building with BSmud, a lot of it is stuff that is not at all intuitive or easy to grasp. This sort of happened for a few days, but then I took a break from muds altogether. If I am going to be staffing a world it needs to be one of two things: a world I've helped to build, or a world that I have played in long enough to grasp the nuances of it to some degree beforehand. Barka rocks, staffing for BSmud is terribly intimidating, and to be frank, I don't want to have to run everything I do through someone else. I did that for over a year while staffing for arm. It is what it is, I guess. I really like Barka, but... I don't have a great deal of interest in doing that again. And when I came on I thought I wouldn't have to, but before I left I found out I was wrong, and was literally winding up with a headache every time I would log in to do something. I think it was a combination of trying to learn everything both playerside and staffside at once (it had nothing to do with other staff or players, everyone there seemed very nice), but either way, if I'm going to be staff on a mud... I'd like the setting to be a bit different than that as well. The good and evil are too defined, from the built world that I've seen, for my tastes. Pentagrams aren't evil and have nothing to do with darkness, for example. My strong suit is creativity and building, and most of the world there is built. What's left to do is bridging one built thing to another built thing, in many cases. Which is fine and great, but... I'd rather have no rope or a lot more rope, if that makes sense?

And I've had to rebuild the same area a few times as different computers have been dropped/shorted out by lightning, etc, but I've been building and working with the codebase I'm using for around 4 years, on and off, and built well over a thousand rooms previously, though I'm currently starting from scratch as the last time I worked on it was before I was on Arm staff and I had a different computer then. >.<

I don't know anything about code but I'd enjoy discussing thematics, setting, and game design.

I can also code. But in all honesty I doubt I will have the time for something like that. However, I would LOVE to get in as a storyteller type that just animates things and runs quests for players. Played Armageddon for nearly twenty years. Been playing D&D for almost as long. Been running my own games for over ten years. And no, I'd have no interest in both playing a character AND being on staff. I agree with delerak. It's either one or the other.

Would like to recommend that you guys consider adopting OpenRPI. No point in splitting development efforts, even if we end up with separate games.
