I've already told staff I will leave again if Blaze isn't banned. I've got one vote and it's with my feet. Looking like I get to be player #305 to quit over Shalooonsh and hit BS. I'm just not interested in being in the same community as that cheating creep

The extent to which staff are avoiding saying anything about Blaze/Malifaxis being banned, despite how often it is brought up on the game's Discord and the GDB, would be comical if it wasn't so pathetic.
Just ban him and say he's banned and you get back a few players. Or just keep being obviously silent about it because he obviously isn't banned and lose some more players.

(this is a good thing but it is a problem to the staff in charge)
Which is why I think they should just be honest and say Blaze isn't banned, so that we can get more new accounts here

Would banning him really help? Is there a fear that he will try to come back under a different name/persona/IP? My view on banning people from MUDs is that it doesn't prevent people from returning, because there are VPNs and such.
But it does force people to change their behavior and reestablish themselves when they return. Banning Blaze means depriving him of a max karma account and a network of friends that trust his online persona. If he has to start over, it severely limits his ability to do harm to the community in the future. And that can be a huge deterrent. Which is why it's so pathetic that staff are completely quiet about it: it shows that their words on community safety are empty.

It would also just make it clear that the staff cares more about the collective playerbase than about one particular staff member, which they've thus far failed to do. If Bebop hadn't dragged this problem into the light, it would still have been ongoing. I can kind of forgive Halaster for not necessarily being aware of the full extent of it since he was gone from like 2006 until 2021 or something like that. Nobody else can possibly claim that they didn't know Shalooonsh is an abusive scumbag. It has been the worst-kept secret in Armageddon's history and it has been the #1 piece of gossip in the various AIM groups and Discord cliques and whatnot over the years, and openly discussed here.
When his position became completely untenable, Shalooonsh was allowed to "gracefully" resign, and staff seems to feel that that was the end of it. For them to do nothing else suggests strongly that they would still have kept him on if not for the fact that the uproar made that an impossibility. If they ban him, it shows that they've acknowledged that the players are in fact in the right, and that the guy has no place on Armageddon anymore. Instead they've just done the barest minimum to not publically declare themselves supporters of a degenerate weirdo, and no more. They're probably more pissed about the fact that this player revolt happened than they are about Shaloonsh's actions.

This is the most restrictive I have ever seen the staff-avatar guidelines. A bold and welcome step. The key piece for me is how they intend to set up accountability to insure this is not forgotten or "softened" again behind the curtain. |
