I played it and it was fine. Boring. But fine. Did Case make shit up about your character from whole-cloth? Was this recently? Who knows. From whole-cloth? What? Speak english fam

I've played with Case before, and she never made anything up about my characters... but in my case, truth is usually stranger than fiction. That said, I've never encountered that side of any of her characters and she always struck me as a good player, just, someone I really, really do not get along with on an OOC level, which has never eeked its way into the game somehow. Atrium politics can get quite murky, are you sure it wasn't a rival poisoning the waters, and Case's character just happened to be the instrument of delivery? There's nothing actually wrong with being dirty and underhanded in game, it's actually kinda encouraged... where it gets wrong is when it comes to an OOC level.

I've had other characters manufacture lies about my character, only time it pisses me off is when it's obvious it's sheer speculation, there's no way to prove or disprove it, and suckers buy that shit and come after my characters for it. I can't play a human without everyone assuming they're a breed, or becomming convinced they're a mindbender (kind of have this issue IRL, most people just shrug it off but there's always that jackass with a dark secret that gets scared because they become utterly convinced you can see into their soul somehow). If I'm not left an out, or an opportunity to, in any way, possibly rectify the situation and my PC I've put so much work into gets murdered because some drama queen thought it'd be funny to make up spy rumors due to a single word in my sdesc being the same word as some other character they didn't like (toned), then I feel justified in being pissed off about that.
EDIT: And for some goddamn reason everyone was convinced my c-elf merchant rogue was a goddamn Nilazi. Sure, toward the end of his life he worshipped Nilaz, but he absolutely was not. The only cool thing about that is I can see the nobility passing around books warning about the return of the stuttering, skirt-wearing, male-whore, nutso, pacifist elf returning to wreak righteous vengence on the city of Allanak.

It makes sense that when there's no actual conflict or source of antagonism, these "old" players will just fabricate something in order to derive some enjoyment out of the game. How else are their sponsored role characters going to have any relevancy? It's not like they have any influence, or are capable of doing anything, outside of their little superficial creations.

True, true. I dunno, I was having a pretty good run with my sponsored role, just kinda pissed people had to get in my way. I guess it makes sense that Merchant House family members, born and raised in the house, would be brainwashed with the whole "group think", us vs them mentality and have difficulty understanding unconventional solutions, so I can't fault the players, or staff, for that, can simply note it as one more role I shouldn't play, should I ever return... but yeah, the whole issue is you're not given enough freedom to spice things up. Maybe Malifaxis is, but the rest of us must beware of staff scrutiny at the slightest slip.

I mean. I wasn't there - I avoid the atrium like the plague - but isn't that place being a hotbed of rumormongers and shit sort of the point?

I thought the Hostess was supposed to "teach", not push off everything to the other PC / NPCs and continually act schizophrenic.
You know, considering I might actually have needed some real lessons to deal with this accursed environment. I distinctly remember Case making things up about how my character acted virtually, how she was doing horrible in classes that I hadn't even attended (because I was having problems matching playing times to meet her to attend these classes), all the while sending me shockingly mixed signals OOCly and ICly. To say it was a put-off is an understatement; where Nyr's disregard of the game environment didn't phase me to the point of quitting, it was Case getting away with something on the same level as the Red Meanie himself that truly killed my love for the game.
How do you deal with that? Someone just making up your virtual actions and then punishing you for it? It'd be like your Sergeant cracking down on your Runner for slacking off, when you've done absolutely nothing of the sort ICly. Perhaps that cannibal Borsail Lord was sabotaging me? If so, nobody ever knew -- Case was so well at playing her cards to her chest and speaking out both sides of her mouth that it seemed like both a meta-grudge and a severe failure of playing the role.
I resent it when others take the agency of my character and make them do things virtually -- it's not about bold-faced lying, because it breaks the integrity of the game world. How am I supposed to respond to that ICly? "Oh Hostess, look at all of the virtual students around -- surely they can vouch for me," and then relying on a staff animation that will absolutely not happen due to who I am? It just cemented in my mind that Armageddon is for the clique oldbies, and I should have known better than posting in the Atrium forum with my main handle to give Case a target to ruin with her new-found sponsored role.
I was going to put in a player complaint, but a full moon rose and Nergal's true form of a Minecraft admin came out to ban me.

Soon as I get some time to work on it, going to start trying to be helpful to the building team on Athas. Had some interesting Zalanthan character concepts pop into my mind, but I'm like, eh, said I was done, and I meant it.
EDIT: Besides, the possibilities on Athas mud, the documents being what they are, are so much more exciting. Can't wait to play an Athas elf.

That's too bad for Arm, Jellywho. IF you're who I think you are, you played some of the more lively, whimsical characters that kept shit interesting.

Well I'd be surprised if I was doing well in classes I didn't elect for... Oh, you're just fucking with me.
