forum.parallelrpi.com/portal.phpAnyone played this? The wife found and we're kicking around the idea of making characters. Opened up earlier this year and is already doing well.

Correct me if I am wrong but I think these are the same people that broke away from Shadows of Isildur a few years ago and started up Atonement RPI. Which did really well in Beta and then closed down due to the plot having holes and the characters all dying on the ship or something.
Anyway it looks great, send me a message and I will make a character as well.

not bad but the support is awful and help files almost non existent
all anyone does is go out to scavenge and the rest of the main city is empty or full of fuck me characters
trying to play a crafter is almost impossible without an ooc guide because of how convoluted the system is

Parallel/Atonement and Arm, while both being RPIs, are dissimilar in the goal and point of the game. I didn't get much into Parallel beyond 3 hours because of time issues, but there's more of a theme of cooperation, survival, and a lot of PvE. There's PvP too, but I never actually experienced it or tried to get involved with it. I really enjoyed the crafting system but it takes a while to get the hang of. Someone can correct me if I've got the small details wrong, but if you want to make a knife you need 'a block of x metal', where x is an adjective that describes the quality. It might be 'a block of pockmarked metal', 'a block of pristine metal', etc, but either way you can use it to craft the final product. That adjective will carry over to the final product and the stats will be based on that. Higher quality material = higher quality product. Documentation is definitely shitty, but there's a wiki and chat on the main site last I looked where you can get help if you people aren't circlejerking each other.
AFAIK Atonement was started up by staff that either split off from SoI or left after SoI shut down. Atonement went through phases and storylines. The first part was everyone was on a giant spaceship, the next part was in Grungetown on the terraformed moon, and then I think there was another phase on another ship. A pwipe also happened inbetween every phase as well. The game shut down because the head guy running it felt that his storyline had run it's appropriate course, but handed over the custom codebase to some of the other staff if they wanted to run their own, which is who Parallel is run by.

Oh wow - had no idea this is former Atonement. Never played that one, and never actually heard about it until it showed on on the Arm GDB has having been shut down. I think we're going to give it a shot.

It's objectively shit, unless you enjoy WoW-like scavenge runs over and over again. It's only redeeming quality is it's easy on the eyes and has nifty commands like conceal and wmote.

I don't like posts like these. They add nothing to the forums except white-noise and turn this place into the GDB. It's fine if you don't like it and think it's a bad game, but at least post something beyond this game is literally worse than hitler.

I gave it a shot. It looks cool and they have this custom item code that's really nice (and occasionally you see the hilariously broken code-generated item desc lol) and I liked the game world, but it isn't very big and room desc quality is inconsistent: you have really nice paragraphs in some places that make you want to read them over again, and sometimes the descriptions are just there to be there, nothing special. Unfortunately, that's all I can comment on because my experience has been that if you aren't playing close to their peak time, you don't get to see much interaction. They have this helper channel in-place for new players, but no one was ever online on it, so I'm not sure if it's getting used much.

I played from 3 days after it started. Had a long lived person and everything. And here is what I can honestly say about PRPI. The concept is good, the idea should be a lot of fun, and it should have a fair amount of PVP and PVE. That being said, don't bother with help files, there all from atonement, and half of them are not accurate. There is a lot to do, and nothing to do at the same exact time. Especially if you are independent.
I know I know "join a family then" Some of us don't want to HAVE to join a clan to enjoy the game. But that isn't why I left. I left because the game wasn't lie the documents suggested. And this was largely because Bastian and Morrow led two opposing factions, but were best friends ICly, and are known very close aim buddies OOCly. And the staff knew this. When they were called out on it, it was shrugged off. Meanwhile the two friends controlled the city, including the third family, due to the fact that they controled 2/3rds of the clans.
That being said, the newer leader of the nines killed bastian (hooray!) And from all that I am hearing, the game is getting much better. But the staff still need to work on there storytelling.
But one thing I will give PRPI above all other games is staff interaction. I've never spoke to nicer staff in my life.

Good to hear, I've heard horror stories about what some of Atonement's staff were like. I'll definitely check it out once it seems to grow more independent than being Atonement's shadow.

There was one that was kinda mehish. But still not bad, honestly. And these are staff that I would contact in game, constantly, to try and figure out the crafting system, and other things the docs were wrong on. And I mean constantly, for like a month and a half. Hal told me not to worry about bothering them, and to ask them any questions I have. If staff isn't online, it logs your petition and they will email you an answer.

I play and can say only good things about the staff. They are active, you often get animations when it makes sense, they are approachable and when they bend the rules, it's more likely to be in your favor. Though I can't comment on the Bastian/Morrow situation as I was taking a break at the time.

Is the world big enough to do some exploring? Is it worthwhile?
How good is stealth in the game?
