I'd like to ask and start a thread for what people do and don't know about the crime code. 1. At night to pre-dawn if you are not within one room (n,s,e,w,) of an npc guard, your fail for stealing wont crime-flag you. It seems that if you're inside some type of structure it still will and if you openly just start fucking someone up on a street there is a few hit delay before a guard a crime-flag. Does this sound right? My guess is if you sap/backstab and there are no guards in the next room, you have three or four hits before you're fucked?

Had no idea about the one-room thing. Might test that sometime.

Had no idea about the one-room thing. Might test that sometime. Thats at night, because you can't (and I guess others cant) see or hear more than one room. At night if a guard is a room away and the npc yells thief!, you're done. If no guard is around, you're okay as long as it's not inside a merchant's stand.

If you are taken to jail by a guard for doing something like stealing, you will be automatically released after a time. I think its like an hour IRL? Could be wrong about that. Things of course can change when templars are online. They are made aware of by the code when someone is brought to jail.
Also you aren't necessarily "done". If you are sneaking you can evade guards. If you are fast enough as there is a slight delay when they chase you from room to room. Never run. If you run and you are wanted, if you run into a room with a soldier he will grab you.
Not to mention hide. So you're hardly "done".

If you're a city-elf with high agility and 90 inches you should definitely try running. It works wonders. No spam from room to room whereas the human soldiers and even the HG soldiers will be hard pressed to catch you if you know the city good enough.

Delerak, they probably changed the code...
Pretty sure it doesn't work like that.

They will and will not. Half Giants move faster then Celves, just due to their sheer height. The point overalli is moot. If your guild can hide and sneak, then hide and sneak. The guards have shit for scan. If your guild doesnt have any of those skills, then you better run, whatever race you are.
NPCs that sell stuff are immune, or maybe 'almost' immune to theft. You will always fail on them.
I dont know what is that thing about a delay on wanted for 3-4 rounds is about. If you have no guards nearby and it's night, you wont get wanted, no matter what you do. Due to that, Imms implemented patrols. Almost every piece of street is being patrolled by NPCs. So eventually, you 'will' have an NPC guard passing by the spot you're in. And if you're fighting someone at time, well ... that's why you study the patrol routes and times. I might be wrong, I suppose. Every time I initiated a fight in patrolled area, I made certain the fight ends very quickly.

It's about me trying a backstab at night on some random npc, with nobody around, I was noobish and after some time of fighting I got a " you are now wanted" echo.

It's also worth noting, you can backstab/throw/sap someone in the street at any time in the day, and as long as there isn't a soldier in the same room, or a room away, you won't instantly get crime-coded. Back in the day it was much harder to get away with things. You literally have to be retarded to get arrested/killed by an NPC.

Hahaha what?? I can bribe them off? How much? Also, it only happened because I wished to the staff. I was only confirming if I was allowed to kill the pc standing near me, they said as long as it's within rp, killed him and WHAM. Arrested by 2 templars and 4 half-giant guards almost instantly and I'm standing there being dragged off thinking "why the fuck did the staff use ooc information to come and kill me needlessly..."
