This was posted by ikthe in the apoc discord yesterday:
Kind of upset since I had high hopes for this but RL always comes first. Can only hope it does come back at some point.

And yet they rejected my application when I was willing to go in on a tear, implementing a complex, adventurous version of sailing the silt sea. Now it seems they felt it better for their game to just die than sign up an unknown. Wow, I must have made a really bad impression.
Might be for the best though. Muds are just dying out anyhow. Pouring in effort while the player count dwindles to nothing doesn't sound like the best use of one's time.

Game isn't dead afaik. Just staff were busy IRL, had a vital staffer die, and didn't have the time they initially did. Sounds like it will open up again when a new team is assembled and the staff got the time for it.
After seeing armageddon, in terms of player numbers you actually interact with, it feels a lot like apoc minus any sort of fun staff interaction. I think Arm is on the way out. Apoc will probably resurface. It was essentially a whole new genre of MUD when you have that level of staff interaction going on. Something you wouldn't even notice is missing on Arm until you've experienced it elsewhere.

When did staff say they left because of voluntary interaction with the pbase?

"Just staff were busy IRL, had a vital staffer die, and didn't have the time they initially did. Sounds like it will open up again when a new team is assembled and the staff got the time for it."
three references to lack of time in your comments about it.
i don't think the sort of ordinary and stable people that you would want being on staff can possibly set aside a reasonable amount of time for what you describe. go hard for a bit, sure.. but as players get older and the reality of being a functional adult becomes more stark.. the sort of hours required to maintain that level of interaction becomes unsustainable.
i don't know if one approach is better than another but i do think it's healthy to temper expectations around this because it's just fantasy to expect people to maintain that time commitment. maybe if they were paid - something like a patreon model might work.

When you lose a key staffer it puts more workload on others who are already deeply involved in projects. It's a complete logical leap to go from "the apoc staff were busy world-building etc" to they overstretched themselves. None of the staff have said that. But if you look at the broader things which have happened it's hardly a surprise this tiny staff team decided to put things on hold, which is completely different to burning out as is being implied. Shit, putting things on hold is the sign of reasonable people knowing when to pull back, not the sign of a few burn outs who keep going despite new constraints.

that just reads to me like you're agreeing with me but with different words. too much of a commitment. they stopped. No, you're still pretending like this is a static situation. Some sort of unchanging monolith. Peoples lives change. This doesn't mean they are quitting forever, which is the implication of something being too much of a commitment.
Did you read the bit where the game wasn't fully built and a main staffer died? The decision not to advertise it at alpha stages? Or do you speak to staff and know they aren't coming back? Or are you just assuming a bunch of shit?
You sound like you know exactly what's going on but your words are so incredibly vague it just sounds like you're trying to make some sort of weak jab at the staff based on......nothing other than this thread? You're a genius, mate. haha
fucking pedo faggot

what the fuck are you talking about? i have zero investment in this dialogue beyond expressing and defending my opinion.
you're the poster child for why it sucks to be in an administrative role in these games, and why the time and energy commitment starts to become burdensome.
go aim your vitriol at a therapist; it's what they get paid to do and you may step away from it with enough self awareness to stop being an insufferable cunt.
