Also the minimum character age should be increased to 18, although I realize this will drive off like 20% of the playerbase, aka the pedobase. Some people sure reacted to the OP, though. Choice quotes so far: Admittedly, I've never been a big fan of the consent thing for adult themes to begin with, because we're playing an adult game I think consent on a game like this is sort of silly. This isn't Mr. Rogers. What do you think? Should you ask consent before emoting about a rat darting through the room? Should rape be back on the menu? |

Consent is not to allow something to happen. It is to allow the graphic depiction of something to happen. You can refuse consent for graphic mudsex or torture and still hit the highlights. Jeshin likes it up against the wall. He's quick on the first romp, better staying power on the second. He has no idea what he's doing so if you moan he just does that the rest of the night. Tressy tress is an eager beaver, no really her beaver is eager. She moans a lot, it backfires on her, she fakes it in the end but it's believable. <--- you have seen a ftb sex scene I have forced this upon you.
Torture could be like
Jeshin would laugh really evilly, he's all about monologuing but does little actual torture-y bits. Fingers, ears, threatens the eyes. You wind up blind. Thug who was imprisoned doesn't talk, he's a guild man and he never sells out! He curses Jeshin and his bullshit act, when he's finally released blind he picks up a job as a street beggar and spy of whispered secrets.

I got an argument yesterday that some players would rather assume consent than have their immersionz damaged by an ooc asking for consent, and the related replies.
I dont agree, but I imagine this view is held by more than a few.

Oh, definitely. I've heard that argument before, and have begun to suspect that the Venn Diagram of "people who don't want to have their immersion ruined by a simple OOC message" and "people who use Armageddon as a form of escapism" is a circle. |

Consent lists aren't the solution for whatever the problem is this is assuming. Things get really muddled. Graphic depictions of violence and torture and sexual themes are fantasy tropes invoked to give the setting a better grounding, but let's face it: most of the people playing the MUD can't write decent fiction, let alone decent torture/sex emotes. God help them trying to do both at once.
Thinking about this from another angle: if this somehow disenfranchised isFriday from playing flirty big-titty assassins that always faded to black because someone fingered his consent sheet minutes, that would be a real travesty and I think the game would lose more than it gained.

I do like my BTAs.
If I'm playing a BTA I'm still contributing to 95% of proposed scenes. I would say over that because I'm not wasting time satisying some erotic fantasy. All murder and drama rather than eroticism.
Meh. Seems just like a way to develop more cliques.

Like, wtf are you planning to do that is so graphically written that I need to give "consent"?
Just how descriptive do we need to get?

Just how descriptive do we need to get? Are you arguing that sexual and torture RP isn't necessary in game designed around fostering character-driven plots? Because I'd be inclined to agree. Sometimes dropping support for certain types of RP is good, because it helps refocus your game around other types of RP. On the other hand, there's the argument of "let players do whatever they want in private", but at the same time, if some players were in private places less, some more shit would be going down in public, and isn't that what you want in an RPI? |

I don't think its necessary at all, but at the very least, not necessary where its described to the point that you might somehow scar someone's mental state should they read it.

And I literally only did it because I'd roleplayed with that guy before on another character and I knew he had his RP chops. He was worth mutilating because I knew he'd play it out well.
Most of the scrubs just deserve a mantishead.
