On the week of September 2 to September 9, 2019, a staff member submitted a PC Death request, officially signifying to their superior that they were responsible for the death of a player's character. It was resolved in 0.07 days (about an hour and 40 minutes), suggesting that either the superior was present for the kill or did the least possible amount of investigation after the fact.
Was your character killed by a staff member this week? If you'd like to discuss your experience in a place where it won't get swept under the rug, feel free to post here.

Only one PC death caused by direct imm animation during the entire bloody rpt? Damn. Thats weak. I miss the days of old. Interesting data. For the entire year, 16 character deaths that somehow had an imm involved. Not all of them were kills. Sometimes its arena related, or bugs, etc. But mostly a staffer was involved somehow. There were 4 reports during one period. Did a clan get wiped out? A group wondered into a mantis clutch lair? Interesting. I love these posts, Mehtastic. I imagine a goblin, saliva dripping, eyes filled with hatred and envy, looking into a homesteads window from outside. Watching the children playing near the hearth. While he is in the cold and dark, buffeted by the winds and snow.

The RPT was almost two weeks ago. We're talking about this week. Pay attention.

qwerty: "you guys need evidence before you discuss or accuse anyone of anything!!!"
players: "ok, well that's kind of hard because we get in trouble for talking about this stuff and you have access to everything. can you check the complaints?"
qwerty: "ummmmmmm no i'm not spending the time doing that."
players: "ok well can you just send them to us and we'll look?"
qwerty: "no you have to get your own evidence"
players: "fine, we'll gather our own. *posts thread*"
qwerty: "wow what a goblin loser"

One PC Death request resolved in 0.02 days (29 minutes) this week. That's some rubber-stamping efficiency!

There are three main ways that staff kill you:
1) Apathy. There are serious abuses going on, usually by other players, and staff does not care or create an environment, pro-actively, where such abuse is less possible. Sometimes there are favorites involved. Certain nobles, templars, and sorcs in the past have gotten away with slaughtering people, where if someone who wasn't friends with them had tried it, would've gotten themselves deleted. Also, sometimes the staffer in charge of a clan just loses interest in it, and let's it get killed off, or actively looks the other way when others are hammering at it. This is by far the most common way that staff have been responsible for death.
2) Because They're Lazy Idiots Who Don't Know The Combat Mechanics Of The Game They're Staffing. There have been a ton of staff who have no real idea how their own game works. They run an RPT, and then load up a dozen NPCs and throw in a mul with master polearms and maxed offense. They have no realistic idea of just how insanely overpowered such NPCs are. Perhaps because the staffer mostly played gickers. But the mundane NPCs will have batshit stats would take a twink player like 80 days playtime to even begin to approach. Sometimes this is deliberate. I had Nergal drop a gortok on me with maxed offense, and which grievous'd me through the best armor possible. But I still killed it one blow later cause it was a gortok.
3) They deliberately set out to kill you. Animating, or sometimes even specifically creating characters with which to hunt you. Fortunately, in my experience, most staff sucked horribly at PvP. I believe Nyr, Adhira and one or two others once made raiders to attack the Salarr (over some bullshit). We brutalized them in the one or two encounters. Sadly, since we had too much fun at it, Nyr petulantly decided that the VNPCs were having better luck against Salarr than they were against the PCs, and increased all the prices of Salarr merchandise to represent it.
Still, imagine some basically clueless staffer that got there because they played the best tressy-tressed cocksucker for years, trying to engage in PvP. But really, #3 is a best case scenario, and even #2 is mostly more your fault for going to the RPT than their's. I was essentially fine with #2 and #3 deaths (albeit, even though I died in several stupid ways, I was never stupid enough to die from #2 or #3). The main way staff killed people off was via #1.
Silly Bonus Way:
4) They try to force really bad advice on you. One of the Salarr staffers, whose name I forget (O-something...I can't be bothered to look up my previous recitation of this event), once animated an NPC Salarri captain to berate me that I was wearing kuraci camos instead of Salarr armor. I asked him what Salarr armor he was talking about, and he decided on the spot that the worthless, heavy (and less protective) tembo hide armor should be worn by Salarri hunters to advertise Salarr products. I told him to get fucked (which was the most ICly appropriate response) and everyone else in the clan was behind me, it went nowhere, and we all kept wearing kuracis. He did however put a completely bitchy hidden note on my account (which Adhira showed me accidentally, years later) that totally lacked context.
Lots of people get killed trying to please staffers. And no one was ever earned karma from it. They just laugh about it.

Like I've said before in similar threads, extremely short resolution times for requests that relate to staff accountability (staff complaints, player complaints to an indirect extent, PC death requests) nullify the entire accountability process by ending discussion before it can even start. All you need to effectively kill a PC as a staff member is someone with the authority to approve a PC Death request to be on your side, and present for the kill, so that no questions are asked. To reference sirra's post, all of the methods but particularly #3 are vulnerable to this exploit in internal staff policy and outward accountability practices for the game. The PC that got killed the other day by staff was probably targeted on purpose. Of course, I'm giving the benefit of the doubt here and assuming all PC deaths caused by staff have a PC Death request related to them. This is most likely not the case. It's fairly easy to sweep a staffkill under the rug as long as no one bothers to check the runlogs, and we all know how staff circle the wagons around their people.
