Are there any crafting recipes for knife-making when its at novice?
I've tried a piece of bone, short length of bone, medium, and long, along with slivers.
Can't seem to find a recipe suitable for knife-making.
I've also tried a sharp shard of obsidian and one of flint.
No knife.
Tips?

Now I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure for any trade skill at least one of the recipes listed in the helpfile is novice-level. Or most of them. Its been years since I've had knife-making...Hmm, for the obsidian knife, try various sizes of obsidian shards. If I recall thats like one of the very basic ones. I think I remember using foraged obsidian shards but I could be wrong. Craft <what could be used to make a knife> and analyze <knife> are your friends.

Also you might want to be careful about revealing what skills you have currently as staff can use that to find out who you are...

I'm trying to remember the exact name of the rock, but I'm failing. Basically, when you're foraging for rocks you're going to get a 'large rock' or something like that. It's not blocks, shards, heads, hands, etc. It's going to be different. Like a large rock, or a brown rock? Definitely 'rock', not 'stone'. Anyway, it'll allow you to make some crappy knife. Fail 2-3 times, and you'll be able to make stuff out of obsidian shards and pieces of bone. You'll be set then. Or get a whetstone and hold it. Whetstone is a tool that gives a bonus to crafting all weapons. It'll be enough for you to jumpstart knife making.

Analyze everything until you find a suitable recipe.
Pieces of bone, raptor teeth, shards of obsidian should all work.
Also, raptor tooth throwing knives are the best throwing knife in game, a +5 to your throw if I'm not mistaken.
