Some of you guys seem to know a lot about who is who IRL. I am an on, off player since 2001 or 2ish. Returning game, and playing for a while and leaving again. Last month I spent like 100+ hours game time, and can't believe Europe-peak player number and PC interaction. I really wonder what changed. Is there a larger Europe based player pool or simply players' gaming habits are different now? (or maybe single city-state works better? or it was luck and nothing really changed much in general )

The EU numbers used to be absolute dogshit because all the Euros played Shadows of Isildur instead. Since that one's mostly dead nowadays, a lot of them went to Armageddon.

I think Harshlands is experiencing the same thing. While by no means like "out of this world" numbers, the amount of off peak players is stable and above what I would consider normal.

Internet capability is spreading into more and more areas.
A lot of people like me who are on 'metered' internet play a MUD for our online game because it's less bandwidth consumed.

I remember in the 1990's playing with a LOT of Europeans, mostly Scandinavians. Almost all of them were at university playing in a computer lab using the university's internet.
Now most of Europe has internet on their phone and even in the heart of Africa there are internet cafes.

With age the playerbase has lost many who now have kids/work-life restraints that re-prioritize gaming habits. My limited ability to guarantee play times has kept me away often or made me shift to being okay with "throwaway" PCs (If life kicks up, not being to attached). Others are able to still schedule play at a different time than they played years ago.
