Not complaining about a discussion, I'm saying there is no discussion to be had here. The game is fine, the game doesn't need our help to fix these grand issues that are regularly spouted by several disgruntled ex-players that post here. I'm all for discussion, I just don't see the point of these threads popping up periodically and they produce nothing of value. With that I will bounce as there is nothing really left for me to say. There was never anything for you to say in the first place...just don't participate like the rest of us that think it's pointless. You made a video with you doing push ups for arm staff and randomly rattling off about the game, you're the last person in the world who should be charging into threads on a chatroom esque shitpoasting board complaining the discussion isn't up to par.

I can say whatever I want. That's the point. Either these forums are legitimate or not, if you say it's all for shitposting trolls than what's the problem? Am I stirring the pot a bit calling people on their bullshit? I'll respond to that piece of shit talking about my family when I have time.

Am I stirring the pot a bit calling people on their bullshit? I'll respond to that piece of shit talking about my family when I have time. "these forums are legitimate or not" wtf does that even mean? this has always been a casual shitposting board. no, it's not for "trolls". i have said that numerous times, including in a pinned post at the top of this forum: objectives of these boardsthe goal of these boards is to be a place for arm players, both current and former, as well as other MUD enthusiasts, to hang out and chat in a casual environment. that's it. there's no malicious or nefarious plans for armageddon mud -- or any other mud. as a registered user, you can view all threads. despite the fear-mongering from people on the GDB, you'll never see them provide any evidence or substance to backing up the claims that we're here to disrupt and ruin Arm. because we're not. it's just a place for people to hang out and chat. you're right. you can post whatever you want within wide bounds, but that doesn't mean you're not going to get called out for being an annoying pest which you're acting like now. now before you type up a long response about how you're being unfairly persecuted, let me be clear on why you're being an annoying pest. it's not because you like how arm is and it's not because you disagree with posters. it's because you're randomly going into a thread you're not interested in and going "HURF WHY ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT THIS THERES NO DISCUSSION" and acting like you're the arbiter of who is and isn't allowed to have an opinion. i too think it's dumb and pointless. i also think some people's opinions aren't merited, flat-out wrong, or are exaggerations but i'm not going to shut down discussion on it because this isn't the GDB. and as i said, you're the last person who should be criticizing people about shooting the shit on Arm when you've made numerous videos and written posts about it for going on 20 years now despite being one of, if not the, most hated person over there.

Why would I write up anything to refute your unbiased unquestionable, fact-based post you just made? I can't argue with that. You're right. I am acting out of turn by disagreeing with people. These forums are full of so many great ideas from people who don't even play the game anymore and who harp constantly about shit that happened 10+ years ago. A healthy ecosystem we have here ladies and gentleman. I am simply in awe with what you've all accomplished here.

As to the person earlier (hackemstackem?) talking shit about people and their family on the internet is disgusting. I was going to make a video just for you and call you out but realized it's not worth my time. I don't tolerate pieces of shit like you in my life and I think this block function they have on these forums is wonderful. Now I don't have to read anymore of your pointless pathetic drivel.

It would be cool if they ran a world spanning plot that over threw the templars/sorcerer-king similar to the way darksun did this in Tyr and the 5 volume of books they released. The city gets liberated and now basically it's run by the people instead of nobles and shit. It would be cool for players to be able to rise to higher stations and all that jazz. from earlier in the month: There should just be NPC raiders roaming around outside (especially further out you go) that have camps and 10-15 NPCs. And these should spawn randomly around the map to represent the harsh conditions of the outside world. Instead you get a few gith here and there in certain areas that everyone easily avoids or just comes in stomps their shit into the ground. chill out and stop being a butt.

I have ideas. That doesn't mean arm is broken, stagnate, needs fixing or needs to implement my ideas. The game has been going strong for many years without them.
Alright I am being somewhat of an asshole. I will apologize for that. It is hard enough however to have a meaningful discussion on the internet, throw in a bunch of pissed off ex-players that are criticizing a game they aren't even currently playing and it's impossible to get anywhere.

I'm trying to puzzle out what the OP is actually about ...
I don't know what the "Glory Days" were. I read these stories on THIS forum about what happened 5, 10, 15 years ago and frankly I prefer the current game. It always seems to me that in the "glory days", staff just handed immense power to their avatars or to friends and let them go around brutalizing everyone else.
While the game is immensely bureaucratic now, I don't see that same stuff happening.
There are some nasty, caustic people on staff that really have no business at all dealing with other human beings. But there are also some pretty decent folks too who try and resolve problems and run things like they actually give a shit if people stick around to play the game.
If I could change 3 things about Arm's culture ... let's see ...
1. Earn it rather than give it. No more Guild boss or Byn sergeant rolecalls. Promote from within or go without leadership until a leader emerges. A leader will always emerge. This lets players actually work towards something, instead of having it snatched away from them and given to someone else. That's both wrong and demotivating.
2. Increased transparency. I often have no idea at all what staff want from me, as a player, because I receive different guidance in replies, requests, etc.
3. Work on eliminating the obvious favoritism. I don't want to call out specifics on this one. What if I'm wrong and I'm nailing some poor guy who doesn't deserve it? But I think there are quite a few examples of favoritism going on that any current player who is doing more than twinking on verrins would probably see.

Sure it is, you start by explaining to them how they’re wrong. The bonus of doing it that way, is some of them might come back and give it another try....kind of like you did. Instead, you sound like an edge lord from a bad anime “It’s pointless...” We all know you can reason better than that. Right now, you’re just sounding like a shill. That’s what's making this so weird.

The game has been going strong for many years without them. i disagree, there are other people who disagree, but that's fine. other people can also have ideas and share them. i don't get why Armers let random people complaining on the internet on a unrelated, unofficial board bother them. if you like your game then play your game who fucking cares, we have no power over it. if you think people here are out of touch and talking out their ass, then so what? that's fair, but the meat of this is that nothing here will get anywhere. nothing on this board is likely to make a difference -- sometimes it accidentally does and imo has been responsible for improved transparency of things and changes by forcing the hand of staff, but i don't think anyone here is expecting that their Ted Bundy manifesto is going to result in changes. people are just posting on the internet and shooting the shit. none of this matters and if anyone thinks it does they're delusional.

For what it's worth, when I use the term "Glory Days" in this specific context, I'm referring to when the game had 250+ unique logins per week. Probably not the best shorthand to describe it, but I was hoping posting the context from the shoutbox would help explain it, so I want to clarify that was my intent. Didn't have much else to add besides that clarification. I think those points are good, especially #1.

Better to look ARM as just another computer game. It lacks advertisement.
That can be done by social media, or mud sites, etc. There are many ways. We need new players. Any community would die, if it cant find new additions. I really hate ARM is still not on largest MUD listing. Trying to gain old players would be nice by the way, but it's a short term solution. We need some IMMs with drive for reaching new players.
---- MUD Popularity;
I believe MUDs and RPIs can be popular once again. Role Playing genre is getting bigger and bigger, new generation is eager to try to new things, and can play non-graphic games like they do with Minecraft. On the other hand, youngsters rarely need to commit to one hobby till they are maybe in 30s, they have many chances, so why would they anyway. In short, I believe MUDs will live on with new generation.
---- Just want to add; ARM is probably the greatest game I've ever played. I am 39 and a non-native speaker. Although I still play tabletop RPGs a lot, even giving storytelling lectures time to time, this is the only computer game I consistantly play. For years, once a year, I come and play for maybe 120 hours and leave. This is an amazing game. You guys think on ARM, more then myself and I like reading these types of threads. So for me, I think this is a great gaming community. You kinda rock.

It's an interesting thread and I'm actually thankful for Mehtastic of starting it. No, I dont truly believe that Mehtastic did it to facilitate improvement of the mud. More likely to encourage players to leave it. And you were active about it on these and other forums. But that's fine. People should do whatever they want to do that would improve their general level of happiness, as long as it is not impeding others. And if that means they should leave Arm and play in Arx, then that's what they should do. I've played in Arx. I've done some pretty awesome stuff there and enjoyed it. But ultimately not for me, unfortunately. I'm very amused by the back and forth between Delerak and others. Delerak has been proclaimed a hypocrite, a shill and a staff member, just due to the fact that he dares to like the game. jcarter note: delerak was proclaimed a hypocrite for multiple reasons outlined in posts that qwerty chose to ignore. Instead you get a few gith here and there in certain areas that everyone easily avoids or just comes in stomps their shit into the ground. chill out and stop being a butt. Criticism.
There is healthy constructive criticism, and there's wanton aimless criticism for the sake of sheer criticism. There was a bunch of shit poured out, when staff ran that tiny insect infestation plot. It was inconsequential, just something for players to do if they wanted to do it. No grand world changing plans, just basic going ons in the world ravaged zalanthan world. Some people enjoyed it, some people didnt. But oh no, the amount of shitposting here was through the roof.
There was a bunch of shit poured out when staff ran the plane shifting plot that introduced changes to some of the weaker magickal subguilds and introduced nilazi/drov reoccurance. The level of shit poured out was intense. To a point of an entire thread based on fictional information that so many people have supported and agreed with, when it was literally based on things that did not occur. Which I guess is understandable. When the focus is to shit on the game and when the person isnt even playing, it's difficult to judge which gripes are ligitimate and which are BS. The goal is to seed negativity, so support whatever posts criticize the game, and call anyone who posts positivity as shills, hypocrits, and staff members. While in reality, that plot was 'nothing', but good. For some, it was inconsequential. For some, it was hella fun. But the amount of shitposting and crying was through the roof. A few things affected Rathustra that originated that plot, but the level of demotivation he expressed was significant.
It's a fine balance. Criticism is required, to keep people from going outside the bounds of fairness and sensibility. But too much of it, or too much wanton amount of it and at best it will either be completely disregarded, at worst it will demoralize and paralyze people it's directed at. Ladies and gentlemen, these forums have loooooooooong have passed from constructive criticism into the wanton destructive shit posting.
What can be done to improve Armageddon? Improve people's motivation. Motivation is the main shtick. Why are staffers picking up more and more new blood? Because people tend to lose motivation and quit/grow static very very quickly. So the hope to get 1 player out of 5 attempts who can maintain a motivated activity for at least a year. And it's working. We do have a number of staffers that have the fire. The energy, the drive, the imagination, the vision. I just wish they read GDB and these forumes less, just so they keep that fire inside them and not let a throng of sycophants/clingy hostile exes with hell knows no fury syndrome rob them of that energy.
That is the biggest problem that's happening with Armageddon. The sheer profound level of ennui that's spreading throughout the staff and playerbase. Both of them, as they are for the most part one and the same. It is an easily fixable problem. All a person needs to do is enjoy the game. I'm certain many people know this. They deal with these forums, or GDB, or staff, and there's a lot of conflicted emotions. But they set aside all that, roll up a character, and just play. And fuck is Armageddon an awesome game when people do that.
You can enjoy a dnd game even if your DM is not Matt Mercer. Even if they're bumbling idiots who either try, but go a wrong direction, or dont even try and it's to the players to really enjoy themselves. Or even if every new session, a different player takes up the mantle of DM and it all becomes a hot chaotic, confusing mess. It can still be fun if the players are open to the idea of having fun. And if people are dead set not to have fun. Then the battle is lost. There is no point. There is no difference. It doesnt matter what happens, what is said, what is done. When a person is decided not to have a good time, they will not.
At the moment. The reason why there cant be a big major alteration in game's theme, is due to the level of ennui and negativity cycles. It doesn't matter what is done and how. There will be a section of the playerbase that will hate, loathe, and wail over it. Before the closure of Tuluk, people were complaining how boring and unzalanthan Tuluk was for years. Somehow they changed their mind the moment it was gone.
So the game is changing. The game is improving. New content is being added. Certain aspects of the game are being altered. Obviously people complain about it the moment the game becomes different then what it was before. And it's happening slowly. Because one, big changes cause player upheaval regardless of what they are. And two, people who are working on those changes are human and they got other shit to do. Like sleep, or work, or see to their families.
You genuinely want to improve the game? Improve people's motivation. Staff and players alike. Can you improve the game by introducing massive changes in theme/system/methodology? No. You cannot. Because no matter how right you think you are, there will be dozens of other people who will criticize, berate, quit, or get other people to quit in response to these changes.
So. What can people do? to improve the motivation of each other?
