I was thinking about this a while today from another thread, so I wanted to test the waters here with my idea.
Green = relatively safe zones, foraging is limited to less rare/valuable stuff.
Yellow = somewhat dangerous, scrabs, beetles, etc. More rare foragable stuff.
Red = Most dangerous. The most rare of materials foraging and the a LOT more dangerous NPCs out here.
The idea is the Green zone represents virtually the fact that around civilizations/cities it is quite safe. Animals stay away, soldiers are constantly on patrol ensuring that any dangers are eliminated so the farming villages can do their thing.
Yellow zone would be far enough out where there is no civilizations except for a few villages, some outposts, no soldiers are around in these areas it's just too far out and dangerous for them to roam.
Red is really far out, think Canyons of Waste.. but actually dangerous. There should be packs of roaming predators, little scripts of things that can grab you from within the sand and pull you under (the anakore script was great but far too weak). Making the world more dangerous would really make players think before going off and exploring the whole Known world by themselves.. you need help in this "harsh" world.
There could theoretically be another zone Super Red which is like instant death for anyone dumb enough to go there.. such as the Sorcerer Tomb near Luirs.. or the kryl nests etc. There could be alarms going off as you get closer to these areas.
One more thing, each zone should increase the value of going.. so in Red zones you'd have more oases, ruins with treasures, little things like old abandoned villages. As you get closer to the yellow/green zones there is less there since everything is in the city.
Thoughts?
