I think the name means a lot with regards to very first impressions (Google search results and such). If I was someone looking for a roleplaying game with serious rules and standards, and one of the search results was called Arise & Wreak, I wouldn't even click it. It sounds like some kind of Nintendo platformer or a flash tower defense.
What about something like Days of Havoc?

What is the overarching theme?

The name is pretty horrible. But I'm so desperate for something that isn't Armageddon that I don't even care.

Oasis, where murder is more common than water. That's not the setting, tho. It's post-apoc high-fantasy, not wannabe arm survival. Don't get me wrong, I'd prefer that. But guy wants to dick around with elementals and pretty landscapes, etc.

I love that the name is from the Gospel of Judas, but I suppose I have to agree that people won't realize that and will likely get the wrong impression.

Birth of Chaos Birth of Destruction Prelude to Anarchy I like these pretty well. I also like RG's simple "Arise", although I feel like that still might be too bland. As to the Oasis idea...yes, there is nothing uncommon about Water in the A&W world. You could think of the theme being survival in the sense of Walking Dead survival, as in trying to take your world back and not be overrun. So your survival is in not getting killed, and being able to fortify, etc. Also you will need to go get water, hunt for food/hide/etc. Also, to get gear you basically have to go dungeon crawling in a sense. Walking Dead is actually a really good parallel for it. I considered once upon a time making an undead-focused RPI, if I could figure out a way to work in something like that, that would be pretty cool to add to it. I should give some thought to this whole "overrun" idea. Thanks for all the ideas, guys. I was not expecting much of a return, but that was a lot of return. How would you guys feel about just "Anarchy" or "Birth of Anarchy"? There is certainly a wild-west element, as there is no longer any control structure. Edit: Also, as I said water is not uncommon. 73% of the world map is water, for example. I should clarify, however, that FRESH water might be more problematic. You would have to find streams or springs or something, or have some sort of purification process for the salt water. I could make this a bigger deal.

So let me give you guys the loose timeline. There are a lot of details to all of this, but here it is:
Place existed. (Place is currently called Vyr, or Veire, can't decide on the spelling) For a long time, Place existed as your typical Fantasy realm. Due to cosmic phenomena, sometimes elementals and the like would pass into Place, etc. There may be certain locations in Place that hold vortices, gates or portals into other planes, etc. Humans started getting creative and progressing. First they could fashion things from rocks and wood, then they discovered mining and metals (probably helped along by the Dwarves in this)...and kept going and going until you get sort of to Man being a 19th century industrialized era, but Steampunk style, to hold the Fantasy charm. 19th century Aether theory holds true in this universe, which has some pretty key implications. Up until this point, some people were born as mages, but most people were "mundane". However, mages and thinkers worked together to produce something called "Aetherium" which is basically a product of there not being a law of Conservation of Mass required in Aether theory. This man-made element, it was discovered, could "hold magic" so to speak. You could think of it as being "charged" when it was created (based on how excited particles work) and then any unit of force that meets it causes it to expel its contents. Eventually, this was used to make life easier for everyone and it made magic more accessible when it came to doing common household tasks like lighting lanterns or what have you. Humans in Place built what could essentially be thought of as a reactor. Someone decided reactor would be a great battery for a spell, because they were experimenting and discovered the charge did not have to be used to do the element it was "programmed" for, but could be used as, like I said, a battery. This is when what is called "The Summoning" happened. That certain someone performed a sabotage, but being that mortal kind's understanding of the Multiverse is only slight, it had an unexpected outcome. The amount of power used was able to open rifts and summon things that people would normally not want to summon, and certainly that the guy was unable to control (think Aeons, Behemoths, etc). People ran like crazy folk into shelters that were built along with the reactor as a precaution, as it was unknown what would happen if someone say, threw bombs into it.
So "the races of Vyr/Veire" hid in their shelters for at least a generation (a maximum of four generations) while "aetherlings" (a generic term that basically means 'something not made here on this plane/in this world') took over and destroyed everything and made the Place suited to themselves. I also think probably there was some war between aetherlings, you know, just total chaos, etc.
Now the "war" has stilled, so people are poking their heads out. When the game starts, this will be you. You will be one of the pioneers into the "new world". There are a lot more "aetherlings" (which could really mean anything, you will find that this is a term created in ignorance) about, and most of them are pretty crazy.
The starting area is basically a beach town that went pretty unscathed, since the people there are on an island and both did not care for and were disconnected from "technology". The surrounding area is overgrown jungle, on the rest of the island. Apart from that, there are a few really large forests, and entire part of the world that is frozen, and the Dieselpunk area is mostly mountains and wasteland (because of what has taken up residence there).
There are organizations in the world that will scramble to go back into effect. One such organization went through The Summoning completely unharmed.
As far as storyline, I kind of have a "chapter" of story laid out to get players started in the beginning. Basically I'm trying to plot out HRPTs for how certain content will be released, etc.
That should give everyone a better idea.
Right now, the starting races for PCs are Human, Gnome, Dwarf.
