The real question is, is there a difference to shield effectiveness, if you etwo it.
I do not know.

People also need to remember that some staff sporadically give skill bumps to ranking pcs they like in their clans. I don't believe this is correct. I am pretty sure I read that Storytellers don't have the coded ability to affect player stats or skills. I didnt claim it was a Storyteller. My primary research partner and I kept spreadsheets on every character we had for about three years. One of his pcs got a sergeant level rank in a clan, and literally every time he logged in, he would get imm emits, animated creatures, etc. It got so bad he left Arm for a while over it. He couldnt get away from attention and just play. During this time, his tracking spreadsheet got screwed up. During periods were he did not hunt or spar, combat skills rose, or took far too few failures to rise once he started training again.

I remember thinking the old toothless joe in the 'rinth was some SUPREME BUFF BEING because my Tuluki Sergeant got magicked into the 'rinth and, with pike weapons branched, couldn't land a single hit with his bludgeoning weapons.
Then I found out the reason I was even magicked away is because I would wrestle with gizhats to train subdue (how else 2 train arrest) and, rather than give me a warning, gave me a pfile warning that I CAN'T SEE, and then did a whole bunch of shit to me for generally no reason other than "we don't like that you're doing something our code allows".
And I feel for the friend getting room echoes and stuff. 90% of the time I just want to play the game and be done with it, my concern is the 10% when I DO need staff to animate an NPC or "Hey I'm going to be barging into this backroom where I shouldn't be but I'm going to need help" and they just sit there, watching AleSix mudsex.

I can see it happening. I never witnessed it myself, but I can see imms doing skill bumps. Sometimes from requests of the Sargeants. They would rp out the training and request skill bumps.
Personally, while it's something I never had to do, I support this. Mainly because a lot of leader roles do not have the time to twink, or even mildly spar. They're sitting somewhere, trying to mindspeak to 10 people at once without passing out. Eventually they fall waaay behind their own minions. It's worse when they get thrust into leadership early on, or are sponsored roles and therefore start off pretty weak (despite skill ups from imms, they're still weak ass).
So in short. I can personally support staff choosing to skill bump an occasional combat group leader if he simply does 'not' have the time to train.

If you're implying that you got transferred to rinth and had your skills dumped/NPC bumped up, just so he could kill your chara, I call bullshit.

I'm no where near a twink, and I've definitely been in situations that were odd and a little more animated than normal were happening to me. I think it all depends on how much of an interest the imms are taking in you, but it could also be that I was actually posing and emoting while I was doing shit and I always had a reaction to what was happening. Nothing that bad happened, but it was definitely things that got my attention.
My only thing with that is I know other people were doing the exact same thing and didn't get that result.

Negative, I think they bumped the NPC skills so that I couldn't just go on an NPC murder-rampage, and they were animating him to interact with me and probably didn't want me just killing their story tool. Just so they could kill me? No. But bumped up an NPC stats to tell a story? Absolutely.

Eh, they're really not too bad. I'm glad there at least a couple deadly NPC's roaming around.

I played a fewer rinthers. Actually a rinthi is one of my favourites because 'lulz ragz ta riches' but anyway, I played one and one of the guys I was with would consistently wreck the absolute living fuck out of everything in sight with his necker high agi and str. He supposedly had very shit hp though. I saw him oost something on the GBD (duck the flak) about it and yes. He was beast. But even he feared that twitchy fucker.
Edited: I wish there were far more rinth npcs. Would make it feel way worse and cramped.

FUCK Twitchy is bad news, he bashed me once and I was down for a solid three minutes. I never went against him solo again.
