2/13 - 2/20: 171 unique logins - 6 new accounts = 165 retained unique logins - 15 staff accounts = 150 players 2/20 - 2/27: 165 unique logins - 8 new accounts = 157 retained unique logins - 15 staff accounts = 142 players 2/27 - 3/6: 167 unique logins - 7 new accounts = 160 retained unique logins - 22 staff accounts = 138 players 3/6 - 3/13: 165 unique logins - 4 new accounts = 161 retained unique logins - 22 staff accounts = 139 players 3/13 - 3/20: 154 unique logins - 8 new accounts = 146 retained unique logins - 22* staff accounts = 124 players 3/20 - 3/27: 150 unique logins - 4 new accounts created = 146 retained unique logins - 19* staff accounts = 127 players 3/27 - 4/3: 146 unique logins - 14 new accounts created = 132 retained unique logins - 19 staff accounts = 113 players Another significant drop (12%) in the retained player count, but this time it is one characterized by a spike in new account creations. I suspect a lot of these new accounts were created by former players returning to the game who were either unwilling to ask for an unbanning or had their request rejected, but it's hard to say for sure, so I am going to count them as unretained players until next week. Even in the best case scenario where all 14 accounts were players that tried logging in last week, found they were banned, and had to make new accounts to keep playing, the game has 127 players, which is the same as last week. No growth, no "the game is coming back again". Just stagnancy. And now for a look at a new dataset: the MSSP report on the player count. I was only able to collect MSSP data starting on 3/29, but next week I should have a full week's worth of data, barring any long-term disconnections like what happened to me at night on 4/1. The following stats exclude points like that, or where the game was down. To be clear, this data is the total number of staff + player logins. It is NOT the who count, which only shows players logged in (minus 1 because it doesn't count you). Average login count: 18.1885 Median login count: 17 Mode: 14 The game had over 10 logins 83.41% of the time, over 20 logins 35.25% of the time, and over 30 logins 8.77% of the time. Given that I collected data for 104 hours, this translates to over 10 logins for ~87 hours, over 20 logins for 36.66 hours and over 30 logins for ~9 hours. Projecting this data onto a full week, the game likely has above 30 logins for 14.5 hours a week, or 2.07 hours a day. It would really be 2 hours a day if this game wasn't mostly played on the weekends only. And again, this is players + staff. To those still convinced that the game is somehow coming back, the data says you're wrong.

Curious what the numbers are going to look like as we move into may/june & the summer. Distance has made the cyclical nature of the issues/arguments that make it to the GDB even more obvious, including how common sense solutions seem to be aggressively overlooked. But those are loosely linked issues; I'm curious how many people got suckered back in. I hope those manage to maintain a healthy game/life balance despite the lack of support for more casual players.
After I quit, I got a solid new job with people I'm excited to work with, focused a ton more on collaborative/creative hobbies and games that don't punish you for dropping them for a while, and was able to cut loose and have fun playing characters in two TTRPGs with great DMs without feeling guilty/FOMO for not being logged in to Armageddon.
It still amazes me how pervasive the game was, and knowing that, leading back to my original thought... I wonder how many couldn't resist rubberbanding back in.

Things have quieted down which is probably a good thing. I've taken a gander at the gdb and found nothing worth my time, nor has anyone at arm contacted me (why would they). I'm glad to hear you've found better stuff to do with your time, it's obvious the people running arm these days don't care about these forums or the disenchanted players that post here.
I had a great workout this morning, crushed some weights, did a cardio machine called Jacobs Ladder and it kicked my ass.

Took a look at the most recent weekly numbers for old times' sake. It's hovering at ~140-145 unique logins per week with a staff team of 16 people, which puts the number of players around 124-130. So it got some people back or retained new players, but even after several months the game hasn't fully recovered from the Shalooonsh exodus and the bumbled cover-up that ensued. And good riddance.
Now the game just lost two staff members to retirement and gained one replacement. Reminds me of all those rants I used to go on about how, eventually, staff will burn through all of the players willing to join the weird bureaucracy of 20ish highly-specialized roles because so many people will have given up on the dysfunction.
Meanwhile, the official Discord community is so happy about how the game has TWO PEAKS (of 30 players in European evenings and 35-40 players in North American evenings), while shitting on each other's preferred play areas and class choices, which will totally, definitely foster that sense of community that new players are looking for.
I'm not sure what I expected, checking on the dumpster fire again.
