Doesn't really fit the other forums but beware - many spoilers ahead. If you need armsolo, it might still be over at discord. I'll get back over there at some point - discord is a pain with multiple accounts for now.
My plan for armsolo has been 1. fix the rooms: no interest in many changes (volcanos, deluge) just want the Tuluk and Nak I am familiar with back 2. fix/create the hardcoded objects needed for spells, guards opening gates, plants (fix break vs. containers) 3. scripts: transfer everything to javascript (simplify), create missing scripts 4. code: simplify (remove anything not needed for solo play - biographies, mail) unify the design - currently has DB (removed), xml files (haven't decided maybe put all constants here), flat files, and many hardcoded constant values This will be the most fun part for me. 5. maybe get around to putting in the data for foraging, skinning updates, crafting recipes, proper subguild definitions (old ones not extended)
What you can do with arm solo now: 1. play solo pve (some skills/spells do not work) 2. run a server - allow others to connect for battle royals 3. create multiple characters, set skills and test your pvp ideas
The big problem is that I have no timeline so I might die of old age before finishing this. And, the game for me is frozen in time - I have no interest in any game changes since I quit playing. So what I do is going to become more obsolete for current arm players as time goes by.
I keep my own notes so what I am doing is sharing those notes. I'll try to get over to discord and post changes when I finish a task.

Task 1. Fixing the rooms
Going through the rooms mapping against the common arm map to find/fix problems
Here are the zones in the old game, roughly what they are and some interesting room numbers login as your imm character and "goto #" to jump to these rooms Some areas are duplicated - shadow Tuluk and Tuluk, silt sea and improved silt sea, more than one version of Luirs Some areas are just stubs - all the "New Tuluk" zones are empty Some areas were never finished or attached - rooms north of the chasm on the guar-pandu road
The only critical missing area is south of Tuluk, need to fix that (it's a dummy zone for now - all scrub type rooms), connecting the Red Desert to the Tuluk area.

I will update this post as I work through each zone.
These are zones/rooms that need to be fixed, some are just noted and won't fix.
Zone 14 chasm area Room 14309 connects wrong (u to room 39478, should be 39489) Room 14014 goes to a keep with skeletons and such, not on current map - will leave shadow tuluk is not used? maybe remove 14801? lot of mobs for an unused area
Zone 21 blackwing area and inner tablelands blackwing camp should be in room 21455 - camp entrance is room 21001 blackwing outpost is smaller than map version - probably will not fix this, unsure
Zone 39 grey forest halfling camp should be in room 39455 western part missing (no kryl in forests, no deluge areas) I like the this version better. no morins in 39167 tower in 39028 missing - is this related to tower at 14014? Not needed. The Lo Ptar Ken village|39001 village 39005 goes west into 39454 village 39008 goes w to 39468 and n to 39468 village 39003 goes s into 39441 and east into 39455

An updated map - shows some room numbers so you can easily jump to different parts of the game
Edited: Finished mapping the exterior lands. Not mapping the cities, they are definitely wrong. V2 of the map shows most of the wilderness rooms available in ArmSolo.
The map is probably easier to read than a lot of text. The map is surprisingly compete. Biggest problems: the north road rooms don't seem to be correct, the beginning of the dol takar road (missing rooms?), and connecting the scrub south of Tuluk to the red desert (missing rooms).
A lot of enterable places are not loading in the game. There are almost 300 "wagon" type objects in the *.obj files. I'm not sure I want to sort through them all and figure out if and to what room they should be loading.
The method describing how to fix the blackwing and Halfling camp will work if you have a favorite one that is not loading.
Edited: Map version 3 - more room numbers so you can jump around more.
Added new zones - 31 (new Tuluk) and 40 (connect the existing scrub south of Tuluk to the Red Desert). The map of Tuluk has room descriptions for all the numbered rooms. Guessed the descriptions of the bold/italicized rooms based on nearby similar rooms. Haven't looked at the indoor rooms yet. Some roads I have never been on so I don't know what they look like - mostly Templar/noble area and inside compounds.

This is a list of enterable objects. I'll put the easy ones back into the world (crevice and skeet den south of Tuluk for example). Some don't exist in the current world - north of room 38785 in the scrubs south of Tuluk there is a climbable tree that leads to a compound. Last time I played arm there were ruins in that room.
Easier to copy this so you can scroll. The name is the object keywords "enter xxxx". The sdesc is the object's description you would see in the room. The second name is the room you enter into. For "an enormous, earthen arch" you would "enter earthen" and goto a room "Against the Heart Tree".

Added a few room numbers to zone 25 so you can "goto" and map if you want. Allanak has a decent bazaar - missing a few merchants but have the necessary ones. Merchant rooms/houses with X over them are not in the game. There are houses in the game so there is no need for apartments. Rinth is very different. Tuluk - need to copy over mobs from zone 20. Luirs/Red Storm - old versions but the basic shops work.
The only mapping problem is zone 66/49 seems to have a problem lining up north south which might be related to the corner problem with zone 49/60/52. The map works if you ignore a row where the "??" are located.

Explaining what I'm doing just for the fuck of it. If I get bored and go do something else, might help you carry on.
Foraging is the easiest to bring up to date. Mostly only need a file where object vnums are associated with the type of landscape (mountains, etc.). Individual rooms can be overridden for "forage artifact". But that comes later.
First need to see how much data the old world has. To do that get into Cygwin, cd to wherever you keep logs of your character to figure out the forage objects.
A simple >grep "You find" *.txt > saved.out
Open saved.out copy it into a spreadsheet then global replace the string constants: "You find a " with nothing and " and pick it up." with nothing. Now you have what is in the attached spreadsheet - a list of foraged items.
Here's where the database comes in handy (if you downloaded and installed it). Used the second page to create sql to search the old object data using the database. Copy the sql into a file. Replace XXXX with '% and YYYY with %';

Out of 136 items, these already exist. And one is roasted. Doesn't mean they aren't in the database, descriptions could have changed, but the needed data is available in the player logs.
Here's an example entry from /lib/data_files/forage:

Need to create the object, make up a rarity. I wrote up more about the format in the original files. The only difficult part about creating new objects it the descriptions - just reskin a small stone for all the bits/chunks/unworked rocks/gems. Change the weight and size for the hand/head/large chunks.
To get the descriptions (will be useful for necessary items) just hope you took the time to "look <item>" with some character.
I used this as a line command on Cygwin. It searches all the files ending in ".txt" in the directory.

Not to be critical, but the forage dump is missing the elemental plane items. There is a large something ruby, a large something diamond, and a large something emerald. The old spell component dump also included several forage only items from the other places, especially water and elkros. Examples with object numbers:

No worries. The world data is from 99ish and the elemental planes were/are incomplete, see z34.obj and z34.wld. Those object numbers don't exist so if you have more up to date world files...share and that would save a lot of time. My goal was to recreate the world that I enjoyed with code so easy to run that a caveman could do it: for solo play or just a few friends (if you've messed with armsolo you know there are no apps, no char restrictions, no password encryption). I plan to get each spell to work though. Removing component requirements is an option. Each step is about - is it worth the trouble. Does anyone really want to logon and "forage salt" for hours? I don't. It's more about the combat but the other parts of the world also need to work as expected, tough call. If you think this is skimping - wait till I get to the crafting bit - clayworking, featherworking? No interest in touching. But it might be your favorite part of the game so I will try to show HOW to add it back in. I have a lot of other projects and sooner or later this is going to be another forgotten toy like that old Nintendo that spends more and more time in the closet. So I share what I can. Updated world files would be nice...then I could get back to simplifying the code: such as removing xml (it's only used in 2 places so saves from linking a library). Time is the enemy.

You can do that now. I run it on Cygwin. Best to go pc vs pc though. Start in Nak since it's scary how little has changed since 1998/9. Tuluk was very different, Luirs as well. Red Storm is close but no cigar.
The major mobs missing: spiders is about it. Kryl are only far out east. Haven't gotten around to scripts yet - such as bash for carru.
Create your imm character or start with "moob" pwd "aaaaaa". Create a char and set the skills to whatever you want. Have at it.
I have a to-do list including adding some missing hardcoded items for spells (mounts/special magic weapons). But I'll probably remove the requirement for spell components.

My version probably won't have your favorite parts. But I hope to repackage and release what I have sometime this fall (without the xml libraries).
For now, these tools/knowledge drops will have to do because you never know when I might decide to go off and do something else.
FORAGE: The forage data is kept in a file "lib/data_files/forage". You need to tell it what sector type ("hills", "grasslands") and a few other things. But what is missing from the data is most of the items foraged. If you are comfortable with scripts (used shell scripts since the idea is that you installed Cygwin with the minimal requirements to make this easy - no python) then you can look at these: scripts.tgz (5.55 KB)
The scripts will walk you through mining your log files (only if you kept the commands like ">l in toaster") for descriptions and sdescs. You will have to edit the data in 2 places. Scripts don't know what material the objects or what types but that's mostly cut and paste since it's 80% rocks. Need the rarity and sector type for the actual forage file.
After editing these 2 files, run it through the respective scripts to create object files and the forage file. Drop them into the correct directory (or copy/paste the data into the existing files) and you will have forage up and running. There is one more aspect I did not deal with - adding forage items to a single room. Forage serves no real purpose in a solo game except that some of the rocks are not for sale - can only be foraged at the moment. Seriously though, just give your starting char 90000 sid in the bank and buy what you want.
The data file has z26.obj - objects created from the list of items I had. These are reskinned from examples. Most values = 1 sid and weight isn't much. You can fix that if you want. The scripts could be changed to allow you to specify value/weight overrides for items.
forageAdds.out can be moved to "lib/data_files/forage" if your current file is empty or added to the end of your current file.
If you are adventurous, you can move/edit ItemsToConvertToForage.txt (-> ToConvertToForageFile.out) and run the script "converttoforagefile.sh" to put forage items in more locations. Example: a bit of rough-grained black stone > 26000 > stones > field > 1 a bit of rough-grained black stone > 26000 > stones > hills > 1
Maybe you want to put it in the grasslands/desert as well then just copy those 2 lines and change the new lines to: a bit of rough-grained black stone > 26000 > stones > grasslands > 1 a bit of rough-grained black stone > 26000 > stones > desert > 1
Rerun the script and replace your forage file. Oops, hold on, wrong file. It's a problem with working this a little bit here and there, forget where I put things.

I'd better do an update and brain dump sooner rather than later. Been sick this summer, surgery coming and have a hard deadline to remove this windows 7 pc from the internet by December. Losing motivation so going to try to finish up a couple of things and get an update posted.
So to reiterate: if you have more up to date code/data avoid this. I am adapting old 1999 data to the 2016 code. I have a few character's logs (rangers mostly) and the wiki to help figure things out. I cannot recreate places I did not see, spells I never tried, or even the descriptions of common objects I never looked at if they do not already exist in the 1999 data (ie. most forage items). So I am just inventing the data/changing the code to get it to work. I'm not very interested in magic or psionics so not putting a lot of effort into them anyway. I consider items marked TODO as a must before releasing this version. Anything else is probably not going to happen. The map ArmSoloBigGrid has a lot of room numbers so use your imm character or "moob" to ">goto #" and check things out.
0. removed mail.c and some subdirectories, removed character.c (xml save for characters), removed a couple of text files. There either is or was another hardcoded directory buried in the code. 1. Updated starting location options (was just allanak).

2. Created rooms to get Tuluk up to minimum. zone 20 is a much older version of Tuluk so scavenged what I could - mostly shops and some houses. The shops are in the Friel's Rest Area. Nothing in Poets circle, nothing in the tribal market, nothing in the warrens either. But you have enough to start in Tuluk and play there if you want. Did not bother with the cotton fields. DREAM LIST: move or remove all zone 20 old Tuluk rooms not using. Move npcs over to modern Tuluk. 3. Houses for you to use: Tuluk - 2 houses - one on north road between the city gate and King's Sanctuary another go south on caravan road before you turn east to go to Red Sun Commons. Nak - lot of houses south of Caravan Way and a few north in the elemental quarter. No point in making apartments work since houses are available. Houses have some gear/food to get you started.
TODO: load bag of keys in starting room? 4. Created rooms to get Nak up to newer Nak - looks like they added rooms to fit a grid (mostly elongated streets). There's plenty to buy in the market but missing the shops south of caravan road. Never been in many of the nobles/academy buildings so if they aren't correct in the 1999 data I did not try to update them.
NOTE: Red Storm, Luirs, cenyr, labyrinth, delf outpost not touched. Their layouts are different than the map. DREAM LIST: fix these. 5. Created forage items/locations based on old pc log data. If I never looked AT an item then the desc is is just the sdesc copied over. 6. Put existing enterable objects in the game world (they are stationary wagon objects). So tents in BW/PtarKen, groves in the grasslands and a few others. There are many that I am not sure about so still messing with these (like the black moon camp). 7. Brew
Changed brew time from 30 to 5 (code in delay.c). Brew takes 2 (or 3) herb objects (type 33) and uses their color to determine the tablet color and herb_type to determine the cure. Reverted back to old school hybrid - new recipes but you can tell the cure by the tablet. Also changed the cures to use only 2 herbs. Didn't test the poisons. Didn't care about vials so they are mostly the mapped to the same vial. These recipes are tested:

Added some missing tablets (small yellow tablet). Some cures also poison. val0 tells what it cures and val2 gives a poison affect. I assume the poison gas is the spell PARCH from descriptions. The vivaduan cure spell does not have a case to cure PARCH (see the spell_cure_poison in magick.c). The blue tablet MIGHT be a cure if it has a script attached but the old chalky blue tablet cures methelinoc. More about that when I finish testing the saltworm mob/c special.

7. Plants
Created/updated some plant containers - many were in the old data but not being used. Gypsy lands had the most. There is a generic_plant C program already in the code to populate the plants with fruit/branches/leaves. Created a simple_plant program that uses edescs for use with plants with only 1 type of item loaded. Use generic_plant for the other types (like featherleaf which has 1 fruit and many leaves). javascript would be better but was really aiming for data updates and not much coding at this point. So that's for another day. Created a "plant_container" special so you can intercept "get", "put" and "pick" when getting something from a plant. It's also an example of how to create a C special if you are intested. Featherleaf has a fruit and many leaves so the vnums are hardcoded in "generic_plant". It's not ideal but in a hurry.
