I don't always post on the shadowboard but when I do it's because I'm taking notes on next level twinking.

Jesus Christ, twinking at that level isn't even fun any more, you're playing the charade more than the actual game.

I'm pretty sure nobody really does that.

I wouldn't do that. I can barely tolerate normal twinking. Little things like knowing about skill timers and how to get more misses help me, but I'm not going crazy out of my way.

Thankfully 'that' does not happen very often. At least not by veterans. On occasion, new players try to go that way, but they get found out within days and then spoken with. To a variable result. For the funny record. If you follow Abuzer's suggestion to the letter. Then in twenty days of twinking, your total progression is still going to be zero . I am actually pretty glad to see that when faced with "true" no shit abuse twinkage, people on this board expressed disinterest.

I didn't read this before. So they messed up with off/def finally. I'm speaking to the twinks: If you are going to twink it, go at full force otherwise it's going to be a terrible grind and waste of time: Play from 2 computers create a dummy elf account with max agility, get in byn as a noob. Use VPN for this account, leave it idle mostly. Spar, rest, spar, always with wooden training weapons and heavy armors on both characters. Ext.heavy is fine, both characters will get maxed in about day 20 This no longer works as it did before early 2010.

yo weight training is serious and still used to work when I quit. I almost get all my warriors to advanced weapons under 5-6 days with that. Last one was in late 2017. Unb. Heavy+++ even to the level that not a single stone could be picked, swinging only at spiders mounted (otherwise bashed & dead) I probably had over 30 warriors with maxed a preferred weapon (master and 20+ timer fails after that to be safe) type and always get surprised to hear how others find it -impossible-

of course, there is an art to it. Have the heaviest of the armors, all container locs worn and full, 2 hunting bags. Hunt scrabs, fill your bags. After all we are hunting so no harm, right? Then on the way back, pass through your -not so obvious stop to which you have previously dragged a sandy spider- and ooppps, who put it there!? (Make a surprised face infront of your PC) You rp as if trying to get away from those vicious fangs. Drop a couple emotes and 20 swings will be done within a blink of an eye. The key is unb. heavy because around advanced you will start killling them. If you kill, you will have to ride north west to that territory to find & drag another spider.
Some of you may be asking, but that doesn't improve offense. Whatever, I don't know. I am only sure that it improves weapon skills. Once a weapon skill hits maxed, go to byn and start unarmed drills to max your offense. 1 thing at a time. If you reverse the order you will always kill the spiders. The key is to go to spiders when your offense is very low.

I hate to admit it, but Qwerty is right. Not only does encumbrance fuck you for offense and defense (which is what you'd originally want for natural fails): /* encumberance penalties for ch and victim */ off = (10 - MAX(get_encumberance(ch) - 4, 0)) * off / 10; def = (10 - MAX(get_encumberance(victim) - 4, 0)) * def / 10;
/* Offense, defense, and parry bonuses */ tmp1 = (ch->abilities.off + agl_app[GET_AGL(ch)].reaction); tmp2 = (ch->abilities.def + agl_app[GET_AGL(ch)].reaction);
tmp1 -= MAX(enc - 4, 0); tmp2 -= MAX(enc - 4, 0); tmp3 -= MAX((enc - 4) * 2, 0); But it also completely fucks your gains. In the code under "ws_damage" which is the base from which all damage types and skill types call from, as well as a number of hard-coded effects and interactions with spells, we have: if (IS_ATTACK(attacktype)) { if (miss && GET_GUILD(ch)) { /* offense slow hack - hal */ percent = 4 * number(1, 1000); // loading your self down to fail won't let you gain percent += MAX(get_encumberance(ch) - 4, 0) * 10;
// prevent using riding as a quick-gain if (ch->specials.riding) { if (has_skill(ch, SKILL_RIDE)) // subtract riding skill - 50, or offense, whichever is less percent -= MIN(0, get_skill_percentage(ch, SKILL_RIDE) - 50); else // no riding skill, 50% penalty percent += 50; } AND } else if (!miss && GET_GUILD(victim)) { /* defense slow hack - hal */ percent = 4 * number(1, 1000); // loading your self down to fail won't let you gain percent += MAX(get_encumberance(victim) - 4, 0) * 10;
// prevent using riding as a quick-gain if (victim->specials.riding) { if (has_skill(victim, SKILL_RIDE)) // subtract riding skill - 50, or defense, whichever is less percent -= MIN(0, get_skill_percentage(victim, SKILL_RIDE) - 50); else // no riding skill, 50% penalty percent += 50; } From the above, the first chunk (IS_ATTACK) is your offensive gains (weapon skills, weapon type vs. creature type, disarm, bash, etc) and the second chunk is for your defensive gains (parry, shield use, etc). Weighing yourself down slows your progress down to a complete halt.

What level of encumbrance do you need to stay below then?

Hold on, I believe there is a misunderstanding, loading yourself with weight might not work for skilling up,
but, the ultra-twink's suggestion (of making two accounts and sparring against one another) should work still? Barring any bans., and assuming they don't heavy load. As far as I'm aware, having your off def in the same range of your opponent allows the normal gain chances, so both those characters will skill up simultaneously no?
I fail to see what sort of code magic prevents this. What, is any indie group that has two newbies sparring together wasting their time?

That's why I said "to the letter"
