They contain a tracking pixel that can log your IP address. It's likely a staff member trying to figure out who leaked the code. Be safe: quote the message and check the BB code. If you see a tag for an image you don't see in the message, it's probably a tracking pixel. Or just use a fucking VPN already. Nice try though angrygortok ! Hey, Armageddon staff. I was user MIRADUS on your forum and in your game. I downloaded the code (and laughed at your work). I have talked about the code, and shared snippets of it with my OOC friends. Who unfortunately have also quit the game because of your management.
I also have written a bad review on TMC about you, shared IC info about my characters here and on Discord, and in email.
You nerds only have power over someone when they want to play your game. Those who get banned or voluntarily quit? You have lost your power.

I might be wrong, but I don’t think any calls to dox imms or players have ever cropped up on this board.
If it’s true that an Arm player or worse is trying to gain IRL info about posters here, well, that’s taking it further than anyone on this side of the fence has dared to go.

I ran out of sympathy for them like 5 years before I even knew this board existed. My tolerance lasted a little bit longer, but my sympathy died in like 2010. |

After an indepth look through Shik's profile of about 5 minutes it appears their first post was for the wiki dump. They had a tracking pixel in their signature. They posted very brief messages with little substance. Considering the fact that at least half of Arm's playerbase visits this forum, it's hard to imagine that a tracker in someone's signature had much effect. The PM ones make more sense as you can control who sees it and actually know that the logged IP is theirs. That's clearly what "angrygortok" tried. When someone puts the tracker in their signature and posts in a thread, doesn't it log the IP of every single person who clicks on the thread? Seems like this defeats the purpose a bit.
Even with this forum as dead as it is, the codedump had about sixty downloads after two days. Back when people hadn't yet given up on Armageddon and were posting here a lot, I'm sure there were 100+ players visiting the forum on a regular basis. What likely happened was that if they already wanted to ban someone, they'd check if that person had visited the shadowboard and use it as justification. They wouldn't have been able to cross-reference and identify individual users this way, nor could they possibly ban everyone who came here.
