Who's the idiot who animated on a woman in a slit skirt in the Gaj? I'm sorry, is Allanak under Sharia Law now? You going to stone her to death, mate? The amount of double-think it takes to say "Armageddon is gender-blind", "Whoring and prostitution is an honorable profession"; and then for a staff member to have the audacity to slut-shame a character: for what purpose? Is the game world coming to life as a schizoid? That's ludicrous. It gets better. The actual animation was to get Vennant to lie to her mate to tell him she was fucking another guy in the roasting pits. This is after the nameless elf screaming as it was getting cut down in the arena how he'd fucked my previous pc - hard to tell if he was the same one who spread the rumor about her fucking elves or not, but it was spread, then he turns up, she doesn't even know his name, and he's so hot to make her look like she was fucking him that he was willing to die for it. (Rin, the sylphic, white-haired youth, Heim's mate) But this was also before Vora, the bynner who wound up leaving the Byn over the npc Sergeant animated to come into the latrines, demanding she suck his cock because he didn't feel like walking to the Gaj to find a whore. Of course, when she pointed him to a pc whore, logged in currently, who was a Bynner AND currently in the Byn compound, this was met with 'You're all whores'. Since the entire screen shotted log of the request in question was deleted within 2 minutes of my posting it, despite censoring all names and short descriptions but my own, I figured I'd leave it here, where Nergal and co can't delete it. Funny thing, if you notice, it wasn't even a complaint, it was just pointing out that enough things like this happening in rapid fire succession really shits on the 'we aren't sexist' world idea. /quote That sounds pretty harrassy to me. I remember hearing about Rin. I think I ICly met the elf in question a few days before his demise, so, I don't think it was a NPC. I remember my elf joking around with him and flirting with him on a couple occassions, in the rinth, then when he leaved telling another elf... I like him, but I estimate his life expectancy from now at four days, at most, and getting a bit of an amused nod in agreement. I think I was playing Sly at the time. I never had a clue why that happened, but Sly just chalked it up to him being insane and left it at that... Or maybe it was another elf of mine (depending on how long ago it was), there were a few of them, because of the perceived cliquish douchebaggery I suspected in game, I started playing females a bit more frequently because it took them a lot longer to sniff me out, which meant by the time they figured it was me, I had already developed the necessary social contacts to insulate me from too much of the blowback.

Maybe I missed what happened to Reiloth. Hopefully they didn't do to him what they did to me: Ban in game account Ban GDB account Ban home ip address This was all done before I posted any logs, request dumps, or started any forum posts. I essentially got the "fuck you dunebum, you're a piece of shit and we don't want you here anymore" treatment. All because of... I'm still not sure. Was it having an account on this board? My quality of roleplay? Or that I wouldn't submit to Nergal's request? edit: it's almost like Nergal just made a "we're banning white privilege from the game" analogy Pretty sure Reiloth became a Storyteller at one point. Or am I thinking of another vocal, active Rrrrr.

I remember the one time I recall knowingly playing with Reiloth (because his PC ended up in a clan I had been in and I rejoined the Byn to keep an eye on him and try to use what little influence I had to protect his PC, no OOC collaboration involved, just a bit of a shock to look at the clan forums) it was a blast. I won't give too many details, out of respect for him as a player, but I ended up with a good deal of respect for his RP and character depth. I remember there was a long string of the most open-minded and sensible posts I'd seen on the GDB from him, if Nergal pissed on his leg that seriously upsets me, and I'd hope Nergal would think twice and revize his stance.

To everyone that deleted their accounts here (because I know you're still reading).
Given the recent revelations here over the last few days, such as the posts from reiloth, bardly or lael that showed up on the GDB...
How fucking pathetic are you to still want to play a game, where Nergal is posting something so blindingly stupid on the board, that the only reason veteran players are leaving the game is because staff bureaucracy is being TOO FAIR - while at the same time censoring players and allowing staff to get away with creepy, rapey harassment of the playerbase.
The only time you get staff interaction on that game, is when they're pissed at you for fighting gortoks in the dark, or apparently, they want you to suck their cock. And you're so attached to it, despite the incredible idiocy on display, that you're going to fearfully delete your account and scuttle back?
That's just sad. Have some dignity.

This is wrong. Staff rules prevent staff from creating plots exclusively for the purpose of harming players, including taking away their goods, damaging their social standing or reputations or doing bodily harm or murder. This was not "the environment acting in a realistic manner". There was nothing realistic about any of it. Having Vennet publicly pass judgement and float false rumors about an obviously well-connected PC doesn't seem very much like Vennet. He is too savvy for moves like that. Unrealistic. The dwarf animation was just lame. Poor storytelling. It wasn't a believable character and the hold-up clearly wasn't motivated by hunger or need because the dwarf refused coins and free food if he'd just let the whole thing go. The dwarf was completely unafraid of the consequences of his actions. The law didn't seem to be a threat and he showed no need to keep his identity a secret. Unrealistic. The dwarf threatening (and possibly actually contacting the Nobility) to smear the Aide is ludicrous. No Gaj robber nobody would dare directly contact the Nobility uninvited. Unrealistic. More likely to end in the nobody's death on the Cuddler. Must be more to it. This has to be a one of those cases we hear about all the time about us not knowing all the details. So... detective time. Let's put the pieces together: The dwarf couldn't be a random robber. Random robbers don't try to rob by debating and threatening their victim in front of dozens of witnesses in public houses. It looked like he was yammering at them for about three game hours. He wasn't looking for coins or food. He didn't have mouths to feed. We can tell from the Militia's reactions in not responding to his blatant hold-up in public and their subsequent releasing of him that they had either been bought off beforehand or that high-level political power was brought to bear during this incident. The robber's easy access to the minds of the Nobility mean that he was not a random thief but instead their agent and the only Nobility that he could expect to have that degree of access to would be those who directly employed him. Therefore, the story that was portrayed by staff animation was that Borsail had (secretly?) sent this dwarf to steal this necklace from the Aide and that they had payed off Vennet to slander her. That was why Vennet was not afraid of any consequences and why the dwarf could care less that the Aide knew what he looked like and why he could Way her with complete impunity to continue his demeaning taunting. This story makes sense, fits all the pieces and IS realistic even if it doesn't explain Borsail's motivation. It is also a plot and because its only purpose seems to be to harm the targeted PC, it is violation of the rules. Pick which way - a completely unrealistic reaction from the gameworld or an illegal plot. Both are dead wrong and Nergal's "we gave you what you deserve and you should expect more anytime we decide so" response was an unpleasant turd sandwich.

Having been on the receiving end of one of Nergal's "realistic world responses", I'm actually kind of surprised I wasn't raped by elephants before the mul showed up.

Let's bring this back to the topic at hand, though. A Girl did something that was not against the rules or contrary to the setting. The cliquey retards didn't care for someone slumming because she liked the company, so their response was to drop a world response on her that was utterly ridiculous in the setting. Allanak is a police state. Openly, loudly, robbing someone in the middle of a public place is tantamount to waving your dick at the templarate. Doing it as a third-class citizen (dwarf) against a second-class citizen (human) who works for a first-class citizen (noble human) should have been suicide. There's no backstory that makes that make sense, even if someone hired the dwarf, because Allanak isn't fucking Tuluk where (briefly) Nyr made it canon that "Shadow Artists" could perform all sorts of bizarre, even un-Tuluki behaviors if hired to do so because the entire templarate was behind it. In Allanak the public isn't conditioned with theatrics. They're conditioned to obey with constant reminders that stepping out of line means swift, terrible violence handed down from Tek on high. It's not that a dwarf trying to rob you in the Gaj is ridiculous, it's that the robbery went uninterrupted for so long. If staff noticed a player doing what the dwarf did, they would have dropped a world response on him in less than a minute and he'd be sent to die in the arena to remind everyone Tek is law. I really challenge anyone to reasonably contradict that. So why did this happen? Staff didn't like what you (the player) were doing because you weren't playing the game in a manner they preferred, so they chose to punish you (the player) in the game using a drawn out and frankly insulting approach that doesn't even fit the setting. This is where the real experience gap is between people attacking the game culture and people defending it. If what you do goes unnoticed or fits the whim of cliquey retards, you're not subjected to OOC harassment. Likewise, the person harassing you may choose forms you don't recognize as harassment. Perfect example of subtle OOC harassment: Your staffer lies to you that if you do X, Y, and Z in game you'll get to do/have what you asked for, then claiming a superior turned you down after you've done them. This is a way to passive-aggressively exhaust you into not asking for things they're not already doing. Though sometimes, it's the superior who has actually lied to the storyteller about you doing X, Y,and Z, and the superior is the one harassing you through them. (To those of you warming up a "He's talking about perks!!!" argument, the correct way to handle refusing to let someone have a thing is telling them "no" and explaining why like you're both adults. Even if the person asking you about a thing is another staffer.) A Girl: Am I right in thinking you're a newer player? Your handle and account look totally unfamiliar to me. The reason I ask is because of something I've noticed while reading this thread's sister over on the alt-shadowboard. Their entire thread is about losing veterans. It's quite shocking that none of the people defending Arm, particularly Nergal with his bullshit "people are quitting because the game's as fair to noobs as to oldbies" argument, that nobody's touched the topic of new player retention. I opened with that for a reason. Going off the old numbers, if Arm was keeping even 2% of the new people who were trying it they'd have net growth. It's not. Why isn't anyone over there discussing that?

Well, regardless, it's still quite worrisome that the topic of new player retention hasn't even occurred to alt-shadowboard to discuss. I'm not completely through the thread, so maybe someone brought it up.
