Yeah Amos, what Jcarter said... also, don't ruin the game for the good players and staffers that are still around, jeez.
And consider this, what if it backfired and they chose to attack a board of butthurt nerds on the internet because it results in more lulz. Did you check the link PMS responded with in another thread?
Still, even just the threat, that's not going to make them go easier on players, that's just going to result in more bannings.

hey OP, it turns out that even though staff awarded you 7 karma you actually aren't any good at roleplaying. gdb.armageddon.org/index.php/topic,52291.msg981840.html (a small nergal snippet) those grapes were probably sour anyway.

I really only play for maybe 2 or 3 months at a shot, then give it a 9-10 month break before getting curious enough to make a character and give it another shot. The cycle repeats itself, and always ends in disappointment at how mediocre the game has become. I never fully regret those re-trials, because I usually find one good group of people to play with each time, and form a memorable experience. I did this exactly from 1999-2016. I'm still somewhat amazed by it, considering everything else that happened to me between those two dates. It still feels like them removing kanks and trying to make Armageddon II happen is when it really took a turn for the worse. If the staffers in charge hadn't been so incredibly stupid and anal, the game could've had and maintained a huge playerbase. There are a lot worse muds that have. But they pretty much made every wrong decision possible.

Considering that I was an extremely different person at each of those two bookends. The reason for it, I think, was the same as the OP gave. I would always find at least a few new cool people, until staff somehow found a way to inspire apathy, frustration and boredom again.

Had some drinks with other ArmageddonMUD players over the past week and a question came up.
Is this the first such time that a MUD has banned players for having a forum account elsewhere? Are there any other such events that you can recall?
Curious and posting from my own account to protect the innocent so they don't get banned unnecessarily, though I'm sure they'll be reading the responses here and on mudconnect.

Specific to Arm, having played off and on since 1994, I don't recall another forum like this. So... no. I don't know that other MUDs have had similar witch hunts.

There are games with thousands - millions - of players that don't have their own forum dedicated to hating the management. Because even the worst run major game out there, allows more criticism and freedom of speech on their official boards, than Armageddon does.

The closest thing I can think of is the old WORA (when online roleplaying games attack!) board. It was moreso a board about Mushes, mainly WoD games, but Firan got a lot of hate along with Shangrila. It ranged from bad descriptions, to shitty reoccuring characters across multiple games, to the dramatic shit staff on games get up to. I'm not sure what happened to it but it was hilarious, a lot of things that happen on Arm aren't unique.

the fact that it actually takes effort to come up with other examples says volumes

www.reddit.com/r/playrust/You'll won't find a larger concentration of scum and villainy on the net. Well except boards.4chan.org/v/Two easy examples of boards dedicated to hating their game or medium, that they undoubtly pour hours into. We owe our lineage to those communities. It's not quite the same level of hatred.
In relative video-game terms, you dislike the hobo that pisses on the sidewalk outside your house (Rust). You really hate the hobo that breaks in to your house, beats and drags you away screaming to a dirty hobo sex/torture dungeon in the projects (Arm).
That's the difference between say, a game like Rust or any other early alpha release that might just glitch out now and then. And like, the years worth of corruption, mismanagement and passive-aggressive abuse that one might receive playing Armageddon.
