fresh-faced storyteller: "hey guys over on the jcarter's forum they say that we spend too much time obsessing about punishing players and policing them for trivial offenses like talking about what skill branches from what instead of making the game more fun."
nessalin: "let's throw a wrench in the works by splitting up a skill into four sub ones that no one will ever bother using. that should slow them down and prevent any more of those CHEATERS from maxxing out a character in less than 20 days played."
nergal: "great idea, nessalin. while you do that, i'm going to set up a task force to figure out who the fuck has the audacity to criticize us by spending time monitoring their forums, jotting down notes, and piecing together this information."
adhira: "please make sure to fill out a BN-8 request form with nessalin and myself CC'ed on any and all disciplinary action so we may have a chance to sit down and discuss these issues instead of running an RPT."
it makes it even funnier when you realize these are all people between the ages of 30-50 and so miserable that instead of spending time with their spouses, children, or doing something fun they choose to spend it by pouring hours trying to exact internet vengeance by preventing you from playing their dead game.

Man that's so inefficient! If they want to ban every shadowboard viewer, they don't need to do any investigating, notes, etc! Just ban every player! I thought that if I came over here, fooled you guys, stole your mascot, and brought it back to the GDB, maybe Laura Mars would date me.  |

Received a ban notice today from Nergal. I'm done guys, I'm out. I've played this game for near two decades off and on... was trying to get back into it with my most recent character, and was debating whether I should continue to invest time in it. It's done now, they made the decision for me.
edit: by the way, they are banning based on ip address as well as username/handles.
I really don't give a fuck anymore, as I have already started playing another mud that isn't run by people who eat their own, so here's a request dump. I want nothing to do with this community anymore, the GDB, or Armageddon in general.

this website has never harassed nor been involved in the harassment of armageddon mud, the GDB, or the staff. to pretend it has is pure fantasy, and the fact that nergal has never actually pointed to an incident over the course of the 4+ years this website has existed while still swearing up and down that those rascally jcarterites are constantly harassing him is a testament to his paranoid delusions.

Holy cow. I've had some pretty crazy hints about who I am both here and there, enough so that I assumed they knew if they were really investigating this kind of thing and just didn't care. Just checked and I'm not banned (or did I?) - haven't logged in for quite some time. I wonder why they think you were me. I do an absolutely impeccable job of covering up from an IP, username, and cookie perspective (edit: and email) - just not from a shit that comes out of my mouth perspective - so if the former is what they're trying to go off of it's very understandable that they'd get the wrong person. I'm sorry dude . Also, what did I do for staff to want to have appropriate cause to try and ban me? |

I guess I was just the first of Nergal's witchhunt... You know ignoring the fact I had been publicly separated/quit from the game for like 2 years before he banned my forum account from the GDB which I was only using to keep up on threads. Based on inconsistencies on who is getting banned and who isn't (and for what), I think it's just a catchall excuse to ban people for another reason - aka not liking you. It's like losing karma in SOI for not logging in for awhile. |

There's no shortage of insults hurled from these boards at Staff and at the more annoyingly sycophantic GDBers. Hell, your intro to the board states "3)If you really feel like causing trouble, pretend to be another PC or GDBer." And, you know, someone did leak their super sekret irrelevant fan fic docs. (Though, I believe that happened on one of the MUD forums first, not here. But it was hosted and discussed here.) I've participated in all these things, so I'm not pointing fingers or undue blame. I'm just saying, he kind of has a point... Has this community hurt the game at all? - If anything it's helped, as evidenced by the laughably large number of noobies who have come here to seek basic game mechanic info. Do our actions justify staff blindly swinging their ban hammer at their own players? - Absolutely not. Have we harassed staffers and GDBers? - Absolutely. It's why I'm here dude. I mean I don't know that the players here have said anything worse about certain GDBers there than certain ones there have said about ones here (damn that was a garbled sentence). The difference is that the players with a beef about whatever here can and do come here to have back and forths about it.
Players can't do the same over there because the moderation rules here lend themselves to what's ultimately a more constructive environment than the 'this is what we want to hear' yonder.
We're not so afraid of criticism that we'll hide in a corner and call any hint of an unwanted echo an attack. It's the problem with over moderation - it's like North Korea. It ends up in people being delusional and believing whatever it is that they want to believe. Here (edit: well, literally it would be there) it's that this is a negative resounding pit that is extremely hostile towards -that-list-, and that they're very unfortunate victims that are being attacked without any thought or reason.
It's unfortunate that they don't see someone who really cares about the game, their past experiences/stories, the community and, more importantly, what it can be when seeing someone raging about one thing or another. Why would someone post criticisms and the like when it has been years since actually being immersed in the game? There's a lot of caring, investment, and even love.
The manner in which they are handling these things gives credibility - no. No, the manner in which they are handling these things only makes the shadowboard all the more necessary.
I fear by the time the lesson is learned Armageddon will be irrelevant (athasmud, other) but we'll see.
Edit: If a staff member reads this, please take some time to look into the relationship between love, control, and hate. Seriously. I think a lot will be much more understandable then.

If Nergal wants to be a thin-skinned little bitch about it he should run for President where that type of childish behavior is apparently tolerated now. the words nergal used were "attacks" and "harass". declaring a pseudonymous person as repugnant or criticizing them is not harassment, nor is it an attack unless we're using the definition of 'attack' stretched to its thinnest and using it in the most metaphorical sense, at which point we're entering the absurd and assuming that nergal is trying to actually justify bans by telling people they are not allowed to be members of the same internet board as me. from the few times i've looked at the GDB threads where posters have melt downs over this board, i've seen people post mean words about the infamous jcarter -- and yet never in a million years would i declare that this was harassment or cry that the GDB was taking part in "numerous attacks". in regards to the intro you're citing -- the 'cause trouble' aspect was referring to confusing staff and having them erroneously ban people. i don't think telling people to protect themselves from staff that spend hours trying to figure out their identity by using misleading terms can be assumed to be harassment or attacks either...although i will point out that an ex-staff member did post under the name of 'ender' for a bit ironically enough. if players were erroneously caught in the crosshairs, the burden of that falls onto staff choosing to antagonize people for affiliating in the wrong places. as far as the super sekret wiki goes...again, what part of that was an attack or harassment? would anyone here, or on the GDB for that matter, say that the pirate bay was attacking/harassing hollywood for hosting links to movies? nergal is spinning fanciful tales using the most melodramatic language possible to pretend he's doing this action defensively, as if he and the integrity of the game programmed by a 13 year old 25 years ago are under siege, and not because he's a miserable person that is legitimately bothered by people having a negative opinion of him. these pretensions are ironic coming from the same staff that actually ARE guilty of harassing players out of the blue (see jazet thread), or carrying the discussion over to other websites like the TMC (jeshin's link) to pester posters. like i said before -- these are some of the most repugnant of nerds. |
