I believe that the more outspoken members of the shadowboard community have moved on to other pursuits, as they've found Armageddon lackluster even in the critique department.
Basically everything's that had to be said has been expressed already. The game is stagnant, so there are no further developments to discuss. All of the secret discussion about the gimped third-elementalists exposes how lackluster they are, but there's no forthcoming information yet out of the players' fear of staff persecution.
Basically, when something dies, so does the parasite leeching off of it. We're dead, for the moment; what's that say about the game?

I've got better places to waste my time. I lurk sometimes, but I haven't played more than about 2 days total since almost 3 years ago. I've tried to go back several times, but every time I do, some policy is changed, or the experience itself is so lacking, that I just wander off again. At this point, I'm tired of showing I'm even this invested. I see the direction the game is going, and while it's nice that it's going "somewhere", I think it's the wrong direction. I've voted with my feet, and eventually my hands and eyes followed. If anyone wants anything I can help with, feel free to PM me, as I've said, I do lurk. But for the most part, I can't muster anything but indifference, not even the outrage to complain here.

Lurkers gotta lurk. I'm here but lurking has been pretty boring compared to the previous six months drama.

I'm trying to help with Athas mud, check it out sometime, this shit will be going live one day and we need builders and people to discuss ideas. As far as Arm, I was banned, not much drama here save the few times some ass-licker gets a stick up their butt and comes over to show us how wrong we are. I suppose it's good for Arm that this place hasn't exploded with complaints against staff, but eh, give it time. It'll be dead until the next atrocity... then it'll hop back up, then it'll die again. This community is entirely dependent on Armageddon to exist. If it's quiet, maybe staff aren't being shitheads for once, or big enough shitheads to drive someone here to voice their frustrations.

Some of us just felt that this forum wasn't worth as much effort as we had previously given it and went back to enjoying the game and not sweating the small stuff.

Everything's been said and nothing really changes. There was a short while where discussions here influenced changes to the game, but then barkagate happened and the GDB community decided that they would rather hate the shadowboard, since it's so pleasant to have a common enemy, than allow it to improve the game as it had been doing. Pettiness and pathetic personalities prevailed. They showed themselves to be so disgusting, so vile and primitive that I don't even want to be associated with a game that has such a community. What they did came from the exact same place as racism, homophobia and other forms of blind hatred. To them, we are everything wrong with the world because it feels good to have such a thing to channel all your frustrations and insecurities into. They allowed themselves to stoop that low.
Besides this, the game is just so stagnant and hopelessly boring that I got tired of trying. I gave it one last go to see if there really was nothing left, and that seemed to be the case. Two months of doggedly trying to dredge up some activity and meaningful roleplay felt largely like a waste of time, and when I and pof Ratface pretty much single-handedly created the biggest Allanak plot of 2016, staff barely even seemed to notice. Our own clan staff literally never mentioned it or otherwise acknowledged that it happened. Players' desperation to get involved showed how little else there was going on, but they sort of inadvertently hugged it to death. It was the only thing of even the slightest significance that happened in two months of quite heavy play. It just felt like a huge waste of time and confirmed that it isn't worth the hassle for me.
I don't belive in Armageddon anymore. I don't believe it can recover, that it can become worth its own name again. The staff is too weak, the playerbase is too toxic, and the entire RPI genre is dying and doesn't feel sustainable anymore. There aren't enough of the right kind of people left: the players who can think beyond their own small-minded selves and actually care about the game they play, and the staff who can see the bigger picture and realize what a game needs instead of just doing whatever is easiest and providing the minimum effort to keep the game open. We're left with too many passengers and not enough quality individuals, because those have been systematically leaving due to all the grotesque mistakes of the Nyr era, the aftermath that he created, and the ineptitude of the people he trained to succeeded him.
It's a game that survives off of being the only RPI that's still fully operational, but even with literally no competition, it just barely manages stagnation. The staff has utterly failed to develop and advance the game, token code adjustments aside, and seem completely incapable of actually storytelling. Nothing happens, nothing moves forward, and the community has proven itself to be too lowbrow and too insular to improve. Petty, self-indulgent nonsense is turning it into some kind of gaming North Korea. You can't accomplish anything, the game is run by and for staff with players just there to make up the numbers.
Staff circling the wagons in defense of their weird changes to magick guilds was probably the last sign that there's no use trying to talk about anything. You have no real voice, you're just allowed to play in staff's sandbox. Doubters were singled out and attacked by staff who had no intention of even considering their arguments. And now look: nobody is discussing this. The entire magick system was completely turned on its head in a change that manages to simultaneously shit on both mages and mundanes, and the resulting silence speaks volumes. Compare this to how much debate and analysis resulted from the defense nerf of 2008 or whenever it was. The game is a depressing shadow of its former self, and the playerbase has become too unpleasant because everyone with backbone and autonomy knew to leave the ship before it sank.

I agree with Newtwink. I quit playing awhile back. I almost posted in the thread about Thrain but I'm glad I didn't ("don't throw your pearls before swine"). I won't sully the good memories by complaining. It's just time to go. Treat it like a stock investment that didn't pan out - don't waste any more resources (time/money), there's nothing to recoup, don't get angry, just walk away and put energy into a new investment.
I'll keep an eye out for Athas mud though.

That's the thing with Arm staff, so many of them seem to be completely incapable of perceiving that there are intangibles involved with anything. They go with the simplest "solution" available and removed perceived "problems" with reckless abandon, seeing things merely as point a to point b, and not as a vast web of interconnections. It just so happens that those who can perceive this web tend to be "problems" in need of "removal" or at least scaling things back a little, and that those who get things revved up and get people excited and having fun again will eventually provoke the ire of staff. As you systematicly remove these "problem players", what you're left with is the boring creatures using predictable tactics to endlessly go from point A to point B, while other, more creative players will sense a disturbance in the web of events, a jarring absence, and say, oh, this again. Well, maybe I can do something to make up for it, or maybe I can leave because I'm sick of this shit. What's not realized is you're not removing just that one "problem player", in the end... and Rathustra seems a genuinely good dude, as do some other members of staff, but I worry they'll be left with a situation like Crayon had to deal with on Prpi when he inherited it. I wasn't there to see what happened, Holmes pissed me off so I stopped playing. Crayon liked my characters and asked me to return, but there was no one playing, so nothing to do, and the economy was severely fucked.

$200 for any defector who can provide a full modern archive of player notes and the IDB. There's more if you provide the live code snapshot. ;-)
