It'd be cool if extended spice use did something freaky, like slowly mutated people, maybe it'd slowly turn humans into psionicists (a la Dune). Unsure what it could do to other races.

And really mutate/deform them at the same time.

In its current state I'd say giving mutations out would be a big 'what the fuck 'in Arm's story. It seems mutations are less of a 'life is hard' thing and more of a 'genetics is hard' thing. If Spice was super regulated/to the point where nobles didn't even do the stuff cause it would fuck you up, sure go for it that'd be cool. In it's current edge lord state. Eh. Nah. Psions would be cool tho.

Mutations, no. You need it to give players something that will give them an OOC motivation for supporting an IC spice addiction. A visible penalty like mutations would just make things worst.
Random manifestation of latent psionic or elementalist powers would probably do the trick. It would also give a real explanation for why spice is banned in Allanak. It would also be a cool source of new conflict for Red Storm.

If it gave out elementalist powers wouldn't it /SUPER/ be banned in Tuluk tho?

If it gave out elementalist powers wouldn't it /SUPER/ be banned in Tuluk tho? Not necessarily. Perhaps the Glorious Sun King wishes to make sure all people with elementalist tendencies, even the most basic, manifest so they can be identified and eliminated. If extended spice use has a chance of triggering minor expressions of elementalist power, these spice-elementalists will expose themselves and be executed long before they develop magick that might threaten the city. And if it also triggers psionic powers, he always needs more of those (if that part of the Tuluk lore is still intact, I'm not sure). Whereas Allanak wishes to keep the numbers of such people low; a spice addict will not be a very useful gem-slave, and Tek certainly doesn't want more psions popping up. In what I'm imagining, the fact that spice can trigger these things is going to be an IC secret, barely a rumor. Learned people will believe it only triggers people who already had elementalist/psionic tendencies anyway. Either way, it wouldn't be enough to discourage its use ICly.

If they wanted to make spice a real commodity, they should up its positive effects intensity and duration. If you knew you could make your character into a walking murder machine for an RL hour spice would be way more attractive. You can't currently... oh wait, you could just pick an elemental subguild and do the same thing for free and without withdrawal. Sorry. My bad. Nevermind, spice is now permanently pointless. If it gave out elementalist powers wouldn't it /SUPER/ be banned in Tuluk tho? What's Tuluk?

It'd be funny if Newtwink got the rolecall with a different account, then, played for ten minutes and stored. Revenge, bitches.

Role calls are the antithesis of what roleplaying is about. Can you imagine a DM going out of his way to tell someone what she needs played during her campaign? I've played dozens of D&D sessions with my friends and never has any of them asked me to play something special, it was always up to me and my potential what I wanted to play, that is what is fun about reading the players handbook and discovering the combinations of cool shit you can play. Not possible on Arm though. Good luck whoever still plays there.

Yeah, it's like asking a player to give up their character and roleplay an NPC for you. Staff policy, this time against active, frequent, purposeful NPC animation, once against arrives at a backward result when tabletop roleplaying really should be the model they are trying to emulate.
