P.S. The game IS in the best spot it has ever been it... Really? Honestly? You actually believe that? The game is in the best spot right now? In its entire history?...
I'm not going to lie. The game has improved considerably in the past several months... But the game has an unimaginable long way to go before its in a healthy state again...
The game is (in my time I've spent playing which has been a bit more than a few years...) the best it's been.
I know this b/c of my last PC was able to sieze plot reins as a mundane indie playing in fucking hardmode and achieved things that wouldn't have flown otherwise.
One of the largest problems I can see is the spiteful amout of jaded, defeatism spit at the game.
I get it. I've been there. Lost karma. Had a great PC force-stored for following docs. Been gutted and fucked over. But it's different now and staff, by and large, are way better overall.
I wish to death some of the more spured and sleighted players could have been in Tuluk BEFORE it was annouced to close. UnderTuluk was opened during a crazy RPT that was beyond epic. (re-done, re-mapped and had elements which CHANGED / ADDED TO THE LORE OF ARM...). Shit was happening. It was beautiful and you didn't have to be a Noble / Templar to get involved / steer the plot.
You all would have loved it. Gone were the broken, mind-bending Templars and their fucked up docs, killing plots and players at the vine.
To me that was the telling sign things HAD CHANGED. I know, bc I played a lot in Tuluk over a few PCs and finally, shit got fixed and right.
Then it was closed and that sucked... Even though the reasons of doing that were justifiable.
But even still, staff went out of there way to try and make it work for the players that got fucked.
Again, I know. I could have stored. Could have ranted and raged. I rolled w. it and ended up in Allanak and went into Boss/Beast mode there. I was lucky to enter Allanak / Rinth at a time when the Templars / Nobles / Shady Mo-Fos in the Rinth weren't complete shitheads and wanted to get in on the fun and played w. logic and sense.
If the game sucked. That wouldn't have been able to happen. At all.
I don't care if this outs me. Arm is still the best game I know of that you can play online (aside from Tinder).
The game's different now and in a better way. My advice is...
Make a good, simple concept that you like. RP the PC as if the character will die each day you log on. And just play the fucking game.
FUCKING EDIT: Ppl bitching about Empty Taverns can go fuck themselves. I've always been off-peak. ">who" = usually me and 4 other ppl, 2 of which were usually gickers mudsexing somewhere in the Tablelands. Maybe I had 2-3 hours late at night when it was 50 ppl online... But even still, you can still make shit happen if you're off-peak or taverns are empty... You just need a reason to attract players and people, which usually falls in your initial concept and plot.
