Stuff like this: "Simul - "The Little Bird". Very few except the most senior Borsails know this spies name. He runs Borsail black networks and only shows himself to PCs who pass some tests and prove their worth. He is also a secret drovian, which Borsail does not know."
You don't think this kind of thing undermines their storytelling?

I have difficulty with the idea of changing our behavior in the hopes they'll listen to us. Just what got exposed here that would justify ignoring good advice? Barka nixxed the contact info page before we even noticed it (which pretty much everyone would have had a problem with). I haven't seen any future plans on there yet. Even if there were some, what would that impact? People would finally know what the hell it is they're contributing their efforts to? The staff have had this long-running problem of coming up with plots at add/rewrite years of complicated secret history, all while forgetting the players know almost none of it. It's why I've gotten so angry about some of the plots Nyr ran. He's changing history people don't know and won't learn. From the staff point of view it's all "Holy shit! So much stuff is changing in the world!11!" while to the players it's a bunch of room echoes fought with each other and then there was a light show. Oh, and now the Muark live in a tent. I'm at a loss for a way to see giving players the history of the world they're supposed to be interacting with is the end of this board. There's stuff the staff never released that's decades old at this point but that they still use as part of the charting for current and future events.

Also he's a drovian. ... yeah, I'm still not seeing how that undermines the staff's ability to tell stories. What, because someone might know this NPC is a drovian in advance, the Borsail imm won't bother recruiting spies anymore? That's ludicrous.

That depends Oldtwink. 1 - What was the last PC to meet Simul and actually have any significant interactions with them? 2 - How old is Simul is he like all NPCs who remain ageless and in stasis? 3 - If he is of such an age that you could just assume he's died by now or he has not been brought out to players in awhile you can easily rename him, give him a different special title, and possibly even change him from a drovian to a mindbender or a nilazi or a whiran or a mundane assassin. 4 - Taking actions out of character based on OOC information trying to guess who Simul is and game IC flow of actions is actually a pretty good way for sussing out irresponsible roleplayers who maybe shouldn't be trusted with sponsored roles

It really doesn't. I'd hazard a bet that Simul hasn't been animated or loaded in the past 10 years. Besides, if I were the sitting Borsail clan lead right now, I could just come up with another character. "Desman, the rare mul psionicist, borne of an illicit breeding program sponsored by the Ministry of the Mind. He controls the Borsail spy ring now, treating subterfuge as an artform not unlike his kin treat their gladiator escapades." I just wrote an NPC. You're underestimating the creative capacity of unpaid volunteers the staff by expecting them to be shackled to a blurb from a database dump 14 years ago. There's probably been 5 versions of Simul that have run their course since then.

PS - NPCs are expendable to further plots, to nosey players, to the changing of staff overseeing them. No single NPC should be so important or so integral to the game that it cannot be replaced with a re-imagining or a completely different one. It doesn't take that much energy to think of new NPCs that fit the gameworld as it exists today instead of how it existed years ago.

Barhin - The spawn of Barka and Jeshin. Known to pontificate endlessly about matters that have long been discussed by others. Occasionally finds valuable information and relics to trade to the collective known as the Shadow Boards. Their gender is unknown, but rumors have it that when they do find a lover they only sex while fully clothed possibly with multiple knives on them for pleasure and safety.

I suspect much of information on the wiki has been retroactively changed, like it never was, never happened.

So all secret documentation should be fair game because staff can always just write completely new stuff every single time they need to use any of it?

No obviously releasing of real time information is not ideal or beneficial for the game, but...
1 - You can read books, comics, listen to music, and watch movies while knowing things about them BEFORE experiencing them. While you may not be achieving the artists intended experience by having no foreknowledge you can still enjoy it.
2 - You should still be capable of adjusting plots, NPCs, whatever as needed if there is a leak. I mean if someone leaks like... The Templar Handbook of secret passages in and out of Allanak. Then that's kind of a pain, because you don't want to update those, but you also don't want to remove them completely, so maybe just look for people using them who do not have the appropriate templar rank and punish them?

Congratulations at making another stab at the game with some twisted sense of it being in the games better interest. I'll be stepping away from a game I love until I don't feel like this sort of shit is encouraged by the players on these boards. Actually knowing the offender I'm pretty bothered about the whole thing.
Fuck most of you. I'm out.
