Being a piece of shit toward players wasn't the only problem. He has also been systematically removing content from the game during his entire tenure. Piece by piece, Armageddon has been culled and trimmed down to a game that now simply offers a lot less, and has far fewer options for character types. Look how many areas, tribes and roles have been removed.
He also installed his own brand of 'decline everything' administration, leading to the hopelessly stagnant and spiritless game that it is today. He has been methodically making Armageddon less fun in a wide variety of ways. The playerbase's total lack of inspiration and initiative can be largely accredited to his habit of saying no to everything that's even slightly interesting and original, allowing only the super-ordinary and trivial. Him merely staying quiet wouldn't fix any of that.
He would have to have nothing to do with any decisionmaking, design or approval processes in order for it to be okay. Basically, he can be a builder or maybe a storyteller. Anything more and he'll drag the game right back down again. Being mean to players on the forum was by no means the only reason people quit in droves over the course of his time as producer.

His title was "Tan Muark" for a while, and is now "Hlum Noble." Two things that were removed from the game. I see two likely possibilities here. Either he's capriciously rubbing in the fact that he got that stuff removed from the game, or it's a tongue-in-cheek reference to the fact that he is as gone as those roles.
Third possibility: I'm reading too much into it.

Eh.
So long as Nyr keeps his head down, stays out of an official staff capacity, and doesn't bother anyone I don't care if he's "back" as a Hlum Noble, or whatever his current rank says it is.
It is obvious that his departure was good for the health of the game.
It is now obvious that he has been gone for a while that his presence was bad for the health of the game.
He was, rightly or wrongly, a focal point that had become a sore spot for the entire community and the health of the community.
Welcome back Nyr, just please don't start speaking publicly or to players via the request tool again.
You know you aren't any good at it. The players know you aren't any good at it.
I know a few staffers currently on staff and though they would never say it, they ALSO know you aren't any good at it.
These are facts.
You aren't any good at it.
Keep your head down. Keep your nose clean. Don't bother anyone with your presence.
If you want to crunch numbers behind the scenes and help the game, good for you. You were always actually very good at that.
What you aren't good at and where your presence harms the health of the game is when you are allowed to interact with players.
Not everyone on every team is meant to be a public figurehead. You are absolutely in every single capacity not the person for that job. It doesn't make you the bad guy. It just makes you a socially awkward guy. Which you are. Other staff realize this. You PROBABLY now realize this yourself.
Do yourself, the game, and your team members a favor (by not making it cringe-worthy for them as well when you speak) and just keep your head down. You not being around has been great for this community. Everyone knows it.
(This is coming from someone who honestly never had much of an issue with you. As far as I can remember, we never had many problems with each other. If we did, they were so minor in the big scheme that I can't even recall specifics. This is a third party assessment of the situation. The situation was and is that you are bad for the health of the community when you are allowed to speak with players. Just don't. That's all you have to do.) How about you post this on the GDB Desertman.

I wish I could get a job on staff making snarky, antagonistic, and self serving GDB posts. This is pretty much my skillset. ;-)

That's quite a mouthful for saying you guess it's ok if he come back even if you sort of don't like him but you still don't have a problem with him but it's ok if he comes back anyway. And typically desertman of you. Always lowering the bar for player expectations while pretending to be understanding towards the players....All the while downplaying imm offense. nyr wasn't just a little bad for the game. He was so horrific it went into rapid decline the longer he stayed. Anyone who cares about the health of this mud should call for his immediate resignation on threat of refusal to play. Make it a walk out, or announce a refuse to login for nyr day on the busiest day of the week and make your point. I'd participate. And for what it's worth LoD had a player petition signed against bhagharva and apparently sanvean acknowledged it and booted him off at last. I'd rather fight and give thus game what it deserves than quietly accept it with a watered down criticism of 'you're bad but it's ok'. I don't care about your opinion. Per usual. Also per usual, you should expect to not get another response after this.
Promise?

Anyone who loves the game must not be ok with this. There is no position suitable for someone who ruins Arm, period. Not as even a builder. If you're a threat to the system, you don't deserve to be a part of that system anymore.
Any player who is ok with his return is exactly what's wrong with the game to begin with: apathy.

He was good at that. Moreso, if you inspect the amount of manhours sunk into the game, I would say one Nyr equals about 4-5 other staffers. The guy literally had no life for awhile. I dont know what kind of a job he's got, but it allowed him to be online for majority of the day and night.
He did a lot of stuff. He motivated a lot of stuff to happen. For better, or worse. His judgement wasnt so great? And his "I dont want this character to be in lead of this clan, I dont like the player." statements were greatly detrimental to him as a staff. And his dealings with players in general were devastating to him as an imm. But in terms of management, organization, and creativity, he ... is pretty good at it.

I'm not apathetic to the game. I wont participate in the proposed walk out. Dont like Nyr? Become an imm and sink at least 'half' the hours he did.
I'll be perfectly fine with Nyr being a storyteller.
If Nyr becomes a producer, or admin again, I'll quit.
But you know 'how' will Nyr become a producer, or an admin again? Only if current producers and admins will step down due to inactivity and Nyr's explosive activity and sheer ability to be prolific once again outshines the current producers and admins.
The guy is a great asset. He just has to be kept in a locked room, so he doesnt scare the children.
I'm in complete support with Desertman's statement.

Funny, I actually liked him more as a producer than any other position because it was a lot easier to avoid him. He only dealt with really high-level stuff and was less likely to screw over your clan.

The thing is, desertman, I get where you're coming from. When you first showed up here I was giving you a standing ovation. But I learned a lot about you as you stuck around. What you don't seem to realize through your actions is that you are being the quintessential enabler. You've casually excused imms refusing even your own character goals by saying it's not a big deal and you were probably in the wrong anyway.
Probably in the wrong? Have you no sense of self worth at all!?
Yes, I can understand when players have unrealistic ambitions, especially if they are not in line with the game world and its theme. But the overwhelming majority of player ambitions are so unbelievably harmless. No one's asking for rings of invisibility or plated undead metal armor or a chance to shmooze with muk utep in his pyramid. Arm is designed to create a certain environment for the many different character types. Take merchants, nobles and templars as an example here. They're put in a position of authority but ultimately have zero authority. And any time one of these players tries to exert their authority (htaniya being a great example) they are not only told a resounding no, they're told no in a very 'fuck you' tone.
This isn't ok. Not at all.
I appreciate your desire to bridge the player staff divide that urinemoose and others like to say does not exist....and who also like to pretend they don't know urinemoose is their nickname here. I really do appreciate your desire to do that. But to excuse nyr and so many others as 'not that bad just lacking social skills' is insulting. It's insulting to the rest of the player base. It's insulting to all of the people here who were unjustly banned or deliberately discouraged until they quit. It's insulting to all the players who received offensive responses from nyr (and others) and had to either swallow their pride just to keep playing, or quit on the grounds that they refuse to be talked to and treated that way. It's insulting to the players who when arguing with nyr had their spouses threatened for no reason at all! I say it again, nyr isn't just a little bad for the game. He is absolutely toxic and destructive. And to downplay that fact even for a good cause only amplifies the problem.
I really do believe you say the things you do out of a desire to do good. The problem is you're defending (half-defending, call it what you will) people who expressly do things out of a desire to belittle and berate others. There should be absolutely zero tolerance for this kind of behavior. You also shouldn't say that it's ok talia refused your plans, that you think your plans were probably stupid anyway and deserved to be shot down. This kind of defeatist mind set is not healthy for the game. Let me show you what a healthy viewpoint looks like:
Despite all of this, there are virtually no limits to what can happen, barring the ludicrous. If your character sets up a mercenary company, he/she may one day lead an army of loyal soldiers on an assault of one of the great city-states. As a magicker your character may one day become a fabled elemental being. Burglars may reach levels of affluence beyond imagination, and merchants may likewise become so rich as to own their own merchant house and dominate the world's economy. The limits are truly whatever you can imagine occurring.

"What does this guy do? He is online literally all day every day. I know he plays the clarinet or something but that's all I know.".

I wouldn't necessarily say creativity. He's great at crunching numbers, javascripts, mild code based stuff, mprogs, etc. He has a lot of time to sink in and invest. He works hard. Creativity is not his strong suit. Communication is not his strong suit. Since communication and creativity are the prime purviews of being a storyteller, I would absolutely be opposed to that role for him. Builder, jr code admin, beta tester, programmer, etc, I think he could actually be a boon at. But when you are a storyteller, your primary duties involve communicating with players and help with creative shit and shit stirring. And neither of those fit his talents, which I admit, he does have talents for things. It is basically arguing with a wall to expect any concession from some people, and that's not just in relation to Nyr but in relation to anything that is disagreed with.
