Question really is, was enough done to show that the game is so much better without Nyr? On Staff "and" the players side. Well, player numbers went back to normal in two months after his departure, and there has been a noticeable (if somewhat reticent) fresh air about the game. This forum turned to mindless bickering about underage sex and snowy mountains, and rehashing old grievances, because there wasn't enough left to post about with Nyr gone. I'd say it's abundantly obvious and completely undeniable that the game was undergoing an almost miraculous recovery from the moment he left, because he was the cause of most of the problems. I just hope he doesn't return to any position of influence. Preferably he'll turn legend and be a prick in-game where one can do something about it. Nothing about it? I am sure if he is outed, some creative individual will pk him on principle. Not that I could condone that sort of thing.

A lot of friends have returned and I was looking over the changes and for a moment I was thinking; this game has really turned around, good for them. And then Nyr posted. This guy could not resist at all, could he? Its not just the fact he had to post, but the way he said it, making sure he informed everyone that not only had he returned but had been around for a while.
Its like he was waiting for everyone's hopes to go up before smashing it down again.
Like someone mentioned, I wouldn't be surprised if he was posting with another account. For example, Negral, is it just me or does this guy come off as arrogant and whiny? I'm looking at his posts in the 'Changes made to how offense, defense, weapon proficiency, and twohanded increase' thread and he acts like he is the smartest guy in the room and pissed off no one kissing his ass. I can see he likes answering questions but from what I'm seeing half the time he does it he just comes off sounding like a douchebag kinda like nyr did in the past.Nyr's good friends might be gone but I guess he is surrounded by good company with guy like Negral.
One thing is clear at least Nyr proves that some of these people aren't just volunteering their time, this game has really become part of their life, whether they are wanted or not.

This is exactly why I didn't want to feed into the nyrspiracy. Forarm man If he really had been here the whole time, and you thought the game was getting better, then apparently he isn't as bad as you thought.

A person known for actively being toxic to the community, not participating in the community for a measurable amount of time and said community improving due to this absence? Woah RGS you're right. He really isn't as bad as we thought!
Man if we could just somehow harness this phenomenon of Nyr not actually taking any part in discussion or interaction with players in general, we may be able to improve the game even further!

Someone should crunch the numbers on player growth when Nyr is neither seen nor heard, then calculate how long he'd have to be on hiatus for Arm to overtake WoW and LoL on members.

Something to remember about Nyr is how much he likes to lie. I'm sure he thinks he makes the game better with his bold faced lies to the community but its made him into nothing but a liar.
Again, I wouldn't be surprised if he has been hiding in the background the entire time. But if the game is getting better it was despite of him, not because of him. The numbers only got better after people thought he had left. I think for the most part this board has made his point that he has been the source of the problem for a long time, we will see how staff uses that information going forward.

Eh.
So long as Nyr keeps his head down, stays out of an official staff capacity, and doesn't bother anyone I don't care if he's "back" as a Hlum Noble, or whatever his current rank says it is.
It is obvious that his departure was good for the health of the game.
It is now obvious that he has been gone for a while that his presence was bad for the health of the game.
He was, rightly or wrongly, a focal point that had become a sore spot for the entire community and the health of the community.
Welcome back Nyr, just please don't start speaking publicly or to players via the request tool again.
You know you aren't any good at it. The players know you aren't any good at it.
I know a few staffers currently on staff and though they would never say it, they ALSO know you aren't any good at it.
These are facts.
You aren't any good at it.
Keep your head down. Keep your nose clean. Don't bother anyone with your presence.
If you want to crunch numbers behind the scenes and help the game, good for you. You were always actually very good at that.
What you aren't good at and where your presence harms the health of the game is when you are allowed to interact with players.
Not everyone on every team is meant to be a public figurehead. You are absolutely in every single capacity not the person for that job. It doesn't make you the bad guy. It just makes you a socially awkward guy. Which you are. Other staff realize this. You PROBABLY now realize this yourself.
Do yourself, the game, and your team members a favor (by not making it cringe-worthy for them as well when you speak) and just keep your head down. You not being around has been great for this community. Everyone knows it.
(This is coming from someone who honestly never had much of an issue with you. As far as I can remember, we never had many problems with each other. If we did, they were so minor in the big scheme that I can't even recall specifics. This is a third party assessment of the situation. The situation was and is that you are bad for the health of the community when you are allowed to speak with players. Just don't. That's all you have to do.)

That's quite a mouthful for saying you guess it's ok if he come back even if you sort of don't like him but you still don't have a problem with him but it's ok if he comes back anyway. And typically desertman of you. Always lowering the bar for player expectations while pretending to be understanding towards the players....All the while downplaying imm offense. nyr wasn't just a little bad for the game. He was so horrific it went into rapid decline the longer he stayed. Anyone who cares about the health of this mud should call for his immediate resignation on threat of refusal to play. Make it a walk out, or announce a refuse to login for nyr day on the busiest day of the week and make your point. I'd participate. And for what it's worth LoD had a player petition signed against bhagharva and apparently sanvean acknowledged it and booted him off at last. I'd rather fight and give thus game what it deserves than quietly accept it with a watered down criticism of 'you're bad but it's ok'.

Was Nyr actually always, or ever, good at that? What I mean is if he wants to sit in the background unseen and unheard from by the community and just approve new character applications (and things along this line/level)...I don't have a problem with that.
Recognizing your limitations is part of being a leader.
His limitation is that he isn't good with people. That's fine. Understand your limitation and put yourself in a capacity that doesn't stress your limitation.
He shouldn't be allowed to speak publicly to or privately with players.
Crunch numbers, sit in the background, push out workflow.
I can't argue with having another application approver/number cruncher on staff so that the staffers who ARE good at interacting with players can have more time to do that.
