As he is one of the players who, along with mansa, gets lots of praise by name in the GDB, I was interested to see this player from staff-side. I was not even slightly impressed, he just seemed like a random middle-of-the-road powergamer. I also remember him having a touch of whiny snowflakeism (though it's been a long time so I can't remember how). Many players that front heavily about being hardcore Armers are secretly whiny crybabies behind the scenes. But let's be clear, X-D wasn't particularly bad in any of these respects. His characters were nowhere near as flat and zero-dimensional as, say, spawnloser's. His twinkery was nothing compared to Cenghiz and his trigger training. And his snowflakeism was nothing compared to Blizzard (I think that's their name? - player of Shattered).
He is just a normal player who has done a good job branding himself by making OOC friends (and probably sharing information with them). And good on him for that, I guess.
If you are looking for someone who kind of lives up to their GDB reputation, I think LOD is probably closer to what you are looking for.

God, spawnloser was just the biggest shitstain ever on the GDB. I've never knowingly played with him, though. What was he like as a roleplayer? All I ever saw of him was his mindnumbingly retarded posts.

I may be crazy, but I'm no hypocrite. I've never played with X-D, but I will say that many self-described "twinks" I've played with have been excellent RPers, much better than me, and I look up to them and they inspire me to work harder at making a deeper, more interesting character. Some of the most twinkish behavior I've seen IG has been committed by some of my favorite characters, you know, that WTF moment when someone shows you a new way to train that particular thing that's borderline off-the-wall nuts, eh, whatever, I'll forgive it, not like it's an activity I'd participate in if my character wasn't so wrapped up with theirs, but as long as it continues, concepts of twinkishness be damned.

I think the only thing I remember about this guy is I got into a huge argument with him over archery and he claimed he was a master archer IRL. I think the thread was about realism and I just got slaughtered by him and his cronies. It was hilarious now that I look back but totally unfair to me because I felt like I was bringing about some really valid points about the archery code and how it can be broken at times. I just remember when he said he was a master archer or some shit and everyone heralded his post like it was the second coming of christ and I think that's when I lost all faith in the gdb.

I have nothing really against skilltwinking. The game practically mandates that you do it if you want to accomplish anything worth doing. Unless somebody takes it to absurd extremes, like two players setting up triggers to spar every 30 minutes in their apartment while they're not at their computers, I generally have no issue with how people raise their skills unless it ruins the game for other players (e.g. try not to actually kill every NPC in the 'rinth, but feel free to fight them to your heart's content). Problem occurs when players actually "cheat" at the game, like ignoring IC realities in order to put people in compromising positions that wouldn't have happened -- like threatening a PC soldier in front of five NPC half-giant soldiers because you know they can't respond, and thus "winning" the scene unrealistically.

Now that I read the thread it doesn't seem that bad at all. In fact I think I was the asshole. lol. I didn't read much, but I read enough to know that you made at least one valid point. X-D went on about how bows are the same, mastery archery shit, etc. That's not true at all. A bow isn't just a bow regardless of what they're made out of. I'm not a 'master archer' but I got that badge in scouts. I was able to pull a compound bow when I was 12 because, well: Traditionally, English Longbows had a draw weight of 150-200 pounds at about 32" of draw. Most modern compound bows have a draw weight between 50-80#. However, a compound bow's design allows more energy to be transferred to the arrow when released. The arrows for a longbow tended to be longer and heavier than modern arrows.2 minutes of googling implies that he's full of shit and a medieval bow was a lot harder to draw. Maybe 10 minutes of googling would unveil something to say that I'm comparing apples and oranges or something, and that he does know what he's talking about, but I don't care that much.

You can waltz on down the aisle of the hunting goods section in kmart and see very quickly that not all bows are the same too....and you don't even need to be a master archer OR a boy scout.
Also common sense.

I was a boy scout, and a weak one at that, but I could pull a longbow.

Then again, I can catch the full force of my weight with a tooth, then wiggle it back into place, despite all the screaming and squirming from observers.

There is a group of GDB cool kids who can be full of utter shit but everyone will just follow along with what they say, despite evidence to the contrary.
Anyone who claims master archer on the internet gets a top lel from me.
