Summon's not gone, & Bad Whiran Thoughts.

The big difference between this and summon, however, is exactly what you said, it has to be planned RIGHT. If you don't plan it right you end up in the middle of Ghaati's BDSM scene with a defiler without knowing the safeword.

So, what character died, and what character did it?

While I don't care terribly much about the rest, beyond general agreement that summon (and any equivalent) is/was a broken spell that had no place in the game, the following is very true and one of Armageddon's great tragedies:

This is something that has always plagued Armageddon. The game is a haven for that kind of player. It's a game where you can be that kind of player without any real consequences. Armageddon's playerbase has always taken a misguided pride in the "it's a harsh world" bullshit. It makes people feel tough and manly or something if they can pretend like they approve of that stuff. In reality, this - together with staff's tendency to completely ignore anything people do as long as it doesn't require any work on their part or interfere with their rather varied principles - has turned this game into a playground for griefers.

I've had characters with a few hours played, who had never interacted with anybody, murdered for no possible reason. I'm not talking about raided in the desert or caught rampaging in the 'rinth. One time was in a shop in Tuluk, some assassin just backstabbed and killed my character that they'd never met before while I was shopping. Completely unprovoked, nonsensical griefing like that is semi-common in Armageddon, and you can always find someone on the GDB who will justify it as somehow being a necessary or desirable part of the game. And when those players get hold of advanced classes, which anyone can do if they're willing to play boring utility roles for a while and kiss staff's ass, then they get access to spells that let them carry out that kind of griefing in complete safety and with ridiculous ease. A whiran could PK virtually anybody within two weeks of creation.

There's no other RPI where you'd get away with just indiscriminately PKing strangers for absolutely no reason, in situations where murder isn't a natural risk but rather something bizarre (randomly summoning someone across the world, slaughtering strangers inside shops, etc.) No other game would allow players to do that. Armageddon's misguided "murder, corruption, betrayal" slogan almost never actually results in worthwhile roleplay and enrichment of the game, because that would require a thriving and well-maintained roleplaying environment, and only ever really gets used to justify griefing and translate it into something more nuanced and profound than it was ever intended to be. Some players just derive satisfaction from robbing other players of their characters, since that's the only way you can really hurt another player, and usually there's nothing more to it. It's RPI vandalism.
