Someone (maybe it was Mansa?) rolled up a character once who did absolutely nothing. He logged him in and parked him in the Gaj for a few days. Then he reconnected (since it dropped his link) and moved him one room away, and ignored him for another few days. He wasted the staff's time just to have him create what amounted to nothing more than an NPC that he refused to animate. In the example you give, how did the player ruin the game for anyone? NPCs do this all the time. They are parked somewhere and some of them do not move at all. How is encountering a PC parked in a place and not moving is so bad, that you are giving it as an example when you are explaining why players can not be trusted?

I was responding to a completely different post. About setting boundaries and people testing them just to see if they can get away with it - which wastes the staff time, which some people complain the staff does without any help from the playerbase. In other words - if you don't want the staff to waste time on things - it's in your best interest not to intentionally try to waste their time. It's just kind of counter-productive.

I agree it's great to feel like you have some creative control. But if everyone had creative control of the game, what kind of game would it end up being? so instead give it to the pearls and ysanias of the game right? God you'd be such an awesome imm. Ghatti seriously the next time there's an opening, apply. You're exactly what they're looking for. as for the mansa story, so what? If anything I applaud a player who has no time to play to make what effectively amounts to an npc. It beats seeing the same npcs that have been there since 1992. I might start doing that in fact. I'll say it again. You really would make a great imm, because you're obviously the type of person who looks for faults even when there aren't any.

It's pretty simple. Ghaati is arguing that since Armageddon needs rules then (in typically Panglossian fashion) the rules that Armageddon currently has are perfect and should not be changed. As proof she offers the doomsday scenario where Mansa might make a PC that just idles, which would inevitably lead to Armageddon experiencing stagnant RP and a rapidly dwindling playerbase.

There already are PCs doing an absolutely fantastic NPC impersonation in Luir's (although a bit more frequently animated), I don't see how Mansa's PC is in any way out of line. I agree with you that Mansa's PC didn't (and wouldn't) spell Armageddon for ArmageddonMUD. But @ghaati clearly doesn't agree with you though, because she used the Mansa example to set up an additional strawman (who is suggesting that Arm should have zero rules, or that players should waste staff time by maliciously testing boundaries?) on her way to justifying her continued support for the staff's Culture of Limitation.

I swear, if this Fist crop is ever wiped out, there needs be NPC Fist members that are scripted to sit at the bar, grunt, squint, peer at you suspiciously on occassion, utter the occasional threat for you talking, leave for the fort at dawn, and have like an %0.001 chance to randomly aggro whenever someone speaks, or it just won't feel right anymore. Dude quit being a dick.
