When I think of the KoolKidsKlub, I think of what the person who introduced me to Arm would talk about. Characters/Players that were doing cool things and getting into jawsome plots, but it was always the same few. Either the cream of the crop always found a way to be near each other, or some people just always found ways. I KNOW some of them would just "find ways" to play around other people, or use their skillsets for their own goals, I saw it second-hand over their shoulder.
The amount of times I'd hear about someone playing with a friend, or seeing the same personalities pop up time and time again who always seemed to find a way to become "hunting partners" always irked me. I don't make friends easily, and Arm friends are Senor TuffNStuff.

There's no doubt that cliques develop over the years of playing this text game. It makes the game more fun. I have a few people on my IM that I keep up with, because it's fun to play with them.
Really, the Cool Kids Club is one big clique. Once you become a GDB personality & superstar, you benefit from the association. How many people had their opinions changed of a character solely based on joining the clan board and seeing who's the player behind it? There's no exact competence expected from characters unless it's known the player is a "veteran"; by that association, those characters get drawn into more plots under the expectation of excellence. These are just my observations.
There are a couple "outspoken" players (who are actually fantastic in my opinion) who have used a GDB alt to deal with anything involving their characters, in order to veil themselves(?) from this phenomena. RRR did this with his Templar. A few nobles do this currently. I think they're trying to get away from the expectations of being cool.

I haven't used my own GDB account in years for clan boards. I know for a fact I'd have people coming up with excuses to kill me if I did otherwise. It's honestly the prevalence of this board, and seeing how many people apparently have issues with me and other people from the GDB, that made me stop.

Wait... huh?
Some one has such serious issues with certain GDB'ers that they have to use monikers on the GDB clan boards to prevent from being conveniently assassinated?
Listen I'm all for pushing my absurd parody like narrative of massive divisions like Armageddon Mud is Drama Highschool.Anime but RGS are you like... serious? You're not fucking with me? Like a level of troll as been achieved that no matter what, if some one knows its your character, all bets are off and they're gonna hunt you down?
EDIT: Not that I think or endorse that level of behavior but the fact that, enough people would indeed be that butt hurt... that long... over a text base game is utterly entertaining in an absurd way.
Listen I'm not stranger to my sometimes epic level of butt hurts, but I don't undertake a vindictive journey that could literally last years just to get 'even'.

How do you know if you are in the cool kids' club? what karma level do you have to have? how many arm vets do you have to have on your aim contact list? how many sekkrits do you have to know? how many staff members do you have to fellate?

How do you know if you are in the cool kids' club? what karma level do you have to have? how many arm vets do you have to have on your aim contact list? how many sekkrits do you have to know? how many staff members do you have to fellate? This may well have been rhetorical, but I'm in a somewhat perverse mood, so I'll bite. Besides, Desertman needs another golden opportunity to tell me how creepy and stalkerish I am by applying some social metrics to our little shared circus; I've been derelict in my duties of late. I'd say 5 would be the "height requirement", with 6 cementing this portion of the boxes to check. Why 5? Because then you're theoretically within striking range of a sorcerer or psionicist with a special app. Note I said "height requirement", not "optimally". 8 karma is of course preferable. Not all vets are created equal, nor equal before the Law of Ness. I'd say this is highly variable, depending upon each vet's Coolness Quotient. Someone like Malifaxis (who, from all accounts, is himself a great guy IRL) who is whilom staff, a bang-up role-player, and generally respected, has a high CQ (let's use a 1-10 scale for ease of discussion). So, if we use Mal as the gold standard, and assign him, say, a 9 CQ, you're well on your way to meeting this portion of joining the Kool Kids Klub (KKK?). Point: I submit that there are different rings to the KKK, with something like Outer Ring, Middle Ring, and Inner Ring existing. Having 5+ karma, along with Malifaxis on your AIM contact list, might in and of themselves be enough to get one admittance into the Outer Ring. Hm, this is the toughest one yet. Since there are secrets and then there are sekkrits. Again, we'd have to attempt to quantify these before being able to really describe them meaningfully, at least for these purposes. Full disclosure: this is the category I fall down badly; I didn't even know there was such a group as 'Servants of the Dragon' until I read Abuzer's log! ...You know, upon some marginal reflection, I'll have to bow out on this one. Someone less ignorant than myself about this area of the game should pipe up! Well, ah, um, lemme just pretend the question at hand is: My most "in-the-know" friend has had a Producer on his since they were called Overlords. I don't think that's a necessity, though. I'd assign a Staff Coolness Quotient of 1-10, similar to the vets section, above. (Which also explains why ex-staff are so coveted in those kinds of groups - you're double-dipping with 'em!)

I wonder how many degrees away from Malifaxis I am. He's prolly the Kevin Bacon of the Arm kool kids. I bet I'm in like, the outer outer ring.

The shadowspeak is our reaction to the KKK(?). We've made our own lovely corner of the world with our own sekkrits and memes.

It's not something that lasts years... my PC's never live that long. It's mroe when some trolling noob joins the game, gets mad, and then spends the next couple months periodically coming back on different characters to fuck with you. I've always used alts, so it's never happened to me. But I've seen it happen and seen staff crack down on players for it.
