gdb.armageddon.org/index.php/topic,50126.0.html I'm seeking feedback from players on what existing regular subguild they would never choose for their characters. I want to know which of the subguilds listed above is least used/liked. We are looking to do some renovating of subguilds and guilds, which may include additions. Before making any additions or alterations I want to streamline our offerings, so information on what isn't used would be most helpful. This will be a systematic process. Subguilds are first on the agenda so keeping any comments focused on this area would be helpful. As I move to other parts of the project I will post additional polls/feedback threads so commentary on those other areas would be best saved till then so that it doesn't get lost in the shuffle.

Eh, I don't think this solicitation of opinion is really good for the community. They really should advance an opinion of their own.
Not like we aren't going to grill them if we suspect they have an opinion, so they might as well come right out and put it on record.

Uh, do they not have tools to check all the characters ever made to narrow down the ones that are played the most and the ones that don't get much play? Why go for anecdotal when you could have hard statistics?

Why go for anecdotal when you could have hard statistics? Because they're looking to change guilds and subguilds, and they're throwing a token out to the community so they can look like they're taking player opinion. We'd be far better served if they simply told us what they had planned. It's a discussion forum, they should discuss.

plus it saves them work to have players submit what they do and dont find useful instead of compiling the data and making a guess

The best ones are the ones that give you something useful that you couldn't have got any other way (or any way that's as good): tribal for no-hands riding, hunter for wilderness stealth and sense direction, thief for city stealth or flee, scavenger for climb. Maybe thug for sap, although I don't put too much stock in that. These skills alter your character and can let you do things like, say, playing a ranger like a city assassin or an assassin like a traveling bounty hunter. They can let you play a warrior or mage in an area where climbing is crucial, like the sewers or (previously) Under-Tuluk.

Some of ya'll make really make the case for "You can't please everyone". You'd likely be bitching that staff changed the subguilds up without talking it over with the community first if they did it that way.

But she is asking the players which of the subguilds are the least used. They should be able to gather this information pretty easily and then approach it as, "Hey we noticed that nobody wants to play the subguild gang bang fluffer or schizophrenic midget handler, and we'd really like the players to go into detail on why."

The thing is, they aren't talking it over with the community. They rarely discuss anything with the community. The GDB is a playground of pointless nonsense, and the staff themselves are too hobbled to take anything that goes on there seriously. Let's have a discussion that comes to a conclusion, for Pete's sake. They are players of the game, too.

This is what offends me most about this attempt to delve for our opinion. They act like they don't play the game and don't know a thing about it. This approach lacks a sense of shared experience.

Could have been worded better, imo. They seem to be making an effort, if this keeps up, they may get better at it.

It's an overhaul that's long overdue, and potentially could have a real impact on a wide variety of PCs, as well as facilitating archetypes that can be quite difficult to codedly generate given the current state of the game (barring special apps). As to the method of gathering data... does anyone knowledgeable about char gen code want to chime in here? Can they really just look at what all past and present characters are, guild/subguild-wise? My Diku ignorance is showing.

Nah, they can't do that. But what they can do is use look at the WHO list. Every player online has their guild/subguild beside their name on the immortal's WHO.
So after years of hitting WHO, you get a good idea.
