the best way to get karma and rewarded by staff: do nothing. if you do something, you will be accused of all sorts of shit, and they will, and have, and still do punish you with an OOC vindictive drive towards the boring and the obedient. survival of the weakest. See, you say this, but it's BS. Why do you even post something like that? Do you know this from experience? From bitter experience, unfortunately. Over multiple characters and multiple years. And not just me, either; I've had a ringside seat for something like half-a-dozen other, similar debacles. I won't actually go so far as to say "do nothing", but rather "do as you're told, within limited-to-very-limited parameters". Let me hasten to add, I hit the jackpot with my very first character in terms of staff and, having nothing to compare it to, thought that was the norm at Arm. Our correspondence was downright warm; they explained to me concepts such as the larger virtual world and why that had to be taken into account (I'd never played in any text-based game before Arm, so that took some getting used to); I actually looked forward to animations because they were clever, interesting, and best of all, internally consistent (the same clan NPCs had the same personality week to week, enough so that you could "ask Dad for a yes when Mom told you no" and in general pit them against each other). So, I know it's possible to have staff like this. It made my eventual collision with Nyr all the more jarring, because I blithely sailed into interactions with the same "We're all trying to make the best story possible!" mentality coming off that first character, and for several indies afterward. And even then, for something like two years I was sure I must be misinterpreting the feedback that I was getting, or that I wasn't being clear enough, or that the issue was garbled communication on my end. I'm a very loyal person, and it was a slow, hard dying of trust and commitment that took close to another eight years to finally hit the point of heartbreak.

Ohhhh. I think I know who you are now, King. I fucking love you and welcome you to these boards. I don't think you do, but I'd totally give you a thousand dollars (twenty years from now) if you guessed correctly.

I think some variation on what I wrote is actually fairy common, Tea. A lot of the decade+ crowd stuck around that long because they had some amazing experiences at or toward the beginning of their Arm "careers", often with an awesome staffer. And as long as Sanvean was Queen of Arm, the ridiculousness would generally only reach a certain level before she put the breaks on. Whether you agreed with it or not, the woman had a coherent vision of what the game should be, as well as a certain grace of word and mind. Those two things made all the difference in the world. Replace that with Nyr and Adhira, and it's not hard to see how things went downhill.

How do you think those of us who MET Sanvean and the staffers of that era felt. I felt great around '02, '03 time frame. I was still a pissed off 18 year old but come on I went to the APMs and met with Arm players/staff alike for 3 years in a row. It was fun back then, and I don't think this can be blanketed with "nostalgia" because I can clearly compare and contrast how different it was. No one is saying it was perfect, it was just preferable.

When is the last time they even had an APM where staffers showed up? I think that's really important for a community stuff like that. No matter your introversion it's really fun to meet up with internet acquaintances and chat. Not only that it's effing hilarious for RPI players because all of the rules figuratively go out the window. Everyone is talking about everything, every character.
I have a distinct memory of being hounded by mansa for the gith docs because someone somehow leaked that I was playing the only gith at the time. I was like "Dude I've no idea what you're talking about." eventually he wore me down and I told him a few things just to get him to shut up. lol. fun times.

people wouldn't waste their time with a RL meeting these days unless the girl who pisses on guys for the sexual thrill was there. that's the only reason I'd go.
to solve the mystery.
is the legend true or merely a rumor? more importantly, is she hot?

I actually looked forward to animations because they were clever, interesting, and best of all, internally consistent (the same clan NPCs had the same personality week to week, enough so that you could "ask Dad for a yes when Mom told you no" and in general pit them against each other). Reading this makes me sad. What you have described, was the attitude of a good storyteller. That's how you know you're playing with one. Their plots and NPCs have an internal, cohesive narrative, and yes, you can play them against each other. It respects you, the player, as an actor in the drama and not just part of the audience. Someone posted in another thread about who are we to judge staff's ability...Well. There you go. That is a perfect measurement of a staffer's ability. If you can play two staffer's NPCs off against each other, then they're a good storyteller. If they both speak with the same voice, then you're dealing with a Nyrite. When I do tabletop storytelling with the same friends I've been playing with for 12 years+, this is how our games are like. A couple of them don't even know MUSHes/MUDs exist. But I imagine their reaction to having to deal with Armageddon's staff would be much like yours, and it gives me a sympathetic pang for your disillusionment. Perhaps because I can easily project how I might feel if one of my friends/tabletop players ever had to deal with an Armgeddon staffer. I'm glad you had the first good experience.

It was a male doing the urinating, not a hot chick. And the one being urinated on was a she-male who, once the golden shower had "gone viral", was fired from staff by a sensible sanvean. Why fired you ask? Because public displays of urophilia is considered behavior unbefitting an Armageddon MUD imm. A notion I can agree with, however being a condescending prick is clearly a-ok if current imm behavior is anything to go by.

Or maybe that's why she quit.
