It would actually be pretty interesting. Nyr steps down, even if temporarily, the game's player numbers jump up considerably. Game becomes fun and interesting. Nyr reappears and tries to act civil as much as he can, so ... five or six days later he does something enough to fuck someone up. They post here. We all hear about it and leave once more. Suddenly it becomes painfully obvious to anyone and everyone. It'd be very awesome if this happened. It'd be better if he never returned, but even otherwise, it'd still be great.
Or ... we could remain sour and bitter and never happy. It's a choice.

I think it deserves a little (note: a real little) enthusiasm. Not to mention a pat on the back. Someone else said it before, this board is like an echo for the gdb.....Whatever is said here often gets regurgitated in paraphrased form there. Ask yourself if you were betting for the sole purpose of winning money and not at all due to your feelings on the matter, would you bet this board had anything to do with the change or not at all? I'm going with the former.
So yeah, we can speculate that things won't change anyway....because it's easy to believe given the current conditions (not to mention statistically likely) but I think before we maintain that line of thought we take a short moment and recognize: it's hail mary time (at least for a day).

I hope Nyr stepping down brings the changes everbody wants. i think its a little strange, the numbers drop, a post pops up on how many vets arent playing.....Nyr steps down. You all go running back...with gasoloine drawers. I agree with Delerak and Sirra, him stepping down isnt going to make me come back that fast, because I think he's a symptom. I hope somehow the world becomes a little more alive and storytelling improves, thats all i'm going to say about it.

It makes for a perfect conspiracy theory because on one hand all that happened is he's taking a break, as virtually every imm does. On the other hand if he was stepping back as a way to appeal to the angered masses (gathering in their jcarter mobs), would he announce that's why he's doing it or wouldn't he just hide behind the claim that he's....taking a break?
Also to my knowledge he has never taken a break. Ever. He's a freakish cross between mad scientist and energizer bunny. It could very well be he's taking a break and that's all it'll be. But the timing has to make one wonder. It literally couldn't come at a more desperate, critical occasion for the mud than now. There are quite a few who will never return no matter what, and that's fine. But I suspect a visible number will return (or just begin playing more) and when that becomes apparent, the startling truth will be even more undeniable to those compulsive deniers on high. This just might allow a little more breathing room for players such that it breathes life back into the game.
But I dream....

Best of luck to those who haven't been karma docked or otherwise had OOC limitations put on the IC key features of their favorite guilds, or told their apologies are not sincere, and are thus willing to go back.
I might go back at some point again, I have in the past. Today is not that day. This month is not that month. I personally want something to show for my time and effort other than a string of PC's that aren't the guild I want and can't achieve any of the goals I want, answering to a group of people who have shown nothing but disdain for me in years, up to and including having the audacity to ban and karma dock me while leaving a website I made to help their cause linked on their mainpage for over a year that I was not welcome to play.

As has been previously stated by others in this thread, I'd implore you to create accounts and bring about the change some of you so desperately seem to want. You won't get everything you desire in a single swoop of the proverbial nest, but by actually revisiting the game, boosting vote numbers and population numbers, you -can- show staff that this is a step in the right direction.
I've never had any issues with staff or, more importantly, Nyr, but I'm always saddened to see players leave in droves. I guess what I'm saying is that if this is in some small part due to the bitching and moaning of an entire community for years, don't let the opportunity slip through your fingers so you can just continue bitching and moaning and being bitter for a few more years.
