I play. Not as much but yep.
Some staff responses on gdb lately have dampened my spirit so maybe I am close. Who knows? Always depends on if I am having fun or not.

I don't really play. I used to make a character once a year or so just to see what's up but I've stopped doing even that.
That list doesn't really quantify much, though. It's not as though it's a list of all the experienced players the game has. The loss of players is sufficiently quantified by the numbers that have been laid out, and by logging into the game to see how dead things are.

Yup, I quietly packed my shit and left a few months ago. There was no melt down or staff altercation, nothing juicy happened. Off the top of my head, the way the closing of Tuluk storyline was handled (as in it didn't exist for players that were trying to get involved in it), seeing a log of Jeshin simply wishing up for an animation and getting it (me doing it frequently and not getting shit), seeing a potential storyline evaporate because "That was a mistake guys, sorry hehehe", and a few other little things I can't remember, made me decide I was just going to have to start over somewhere else. I feel a little bad for leaving the people I was playing with behind. I'd rather play somewhere where storytelling is more collaborative and means something, though.

exactly... i think a lot of people just left without a big fuck-you-no-fuck-you blow up because staff wasn't engaging in collaboration. like at all.

exactly... i think a lot of people just left without a big fuck-you-no-fuck-you blow up because staff wasn't engaging in collaboration. like at all. i don't even think it was necessarily that as much as growing up. i played Arm in my teens and early twenties, then got a career and a wife. i don't have time to regularly spend doing Arm because I can't log in consistently and a large part of the coded game is locked away behind long and unfun skill grinds. spending 6 months in the Byn playing a few hours a week so I can be a hunter who can kill a scrab isn't fun. and that's why Arm can't get and hold new players. it's 2015, we, as in gamers and developers, figured out more than 10 years ago that shit wasn't fun. that's why WoW, a way more accessible and less grindy game, took off and EverQuest went downhill.

Hell, with my current job I could log literally twelve hours a day-- but I just can't bring myself around to doing it.
I quit playing for good a couple of years ago, though I still have a ninety-something-year-old character with a twenty-year-old's description that I pop in and read the boards and tavern sit with every now and again.
Maybe I'm a bit biased because my first memorable experiences with the game involved the ass-end of the Copper War, being forced to literally sell my soul to Quick, and being a dirty rat bastard vulture looting corpses after fire elementals decided to push Allanak's shit in, but shit's just gotten stale and boring these last few years.
It's like the feel of the game has gone from Awesome Wild West Nonsenseā¢ to Whatever Play A Merchant And Get Mastercrafts Denied Or Somethingā¢.

I quit. Partially due to burnout and partially due to already noted issues.
I don't imagine I will stay quit forever, but it is what it is. There are issues that should be taken care of and everyone knows what those issues are.
You have a single action you could take that would get you back a few dozen players.
You will not retain a few dozen players even if you sit at the number one spot on both voting sites for two years straight.
That's the numbers. Even if you COULD (which you won't) retain a few dozen players over two years the players you will retain will be brand new. It will take you a few more years to turn them into quality players.
Either you are serious about wanting to increase player numbers, or you are aren't. There is an extremely easy way to get back extremely high quality players in bulk if only you take a moment to actually consider the game and not just your own ego for a moment. You can actually do something, or you can selfishly and insecurely blow smoke.
It's not about other people bashing your character as a person.
You have two very simple options.
You can LITERALLY be the hero, or you can be the villain and you know EXACTLY how to do that. You are the only one who can make that choice for yourself, and the choice you make affects the entire community.

Quit. Reason: boring and snarky staff.

I still play, but less than I used to. It just seems less fun these days, probably in no small part due to the steep drop in player count. So there's a vicious cycle sort of thing going on, on top of Arm's other problems.
