What's bullshit is how long it went on and how many folks were complicit in its continuation. Not only Nyr, but those who supported him and would not tell him when he was wrong... are the reason why the playerbase really got its ass kicked.
I doubt some people will ever come back, no thanks to people like you, ghaati, who like many others propped up the toilet of those who were shitting ALL OVER this game and every player who rubbed them the wrong way.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: if you want people to keep playing a game, don't act condescendingly toward them, treat them like moronic white trash, or otherwise be a jerk.
Yes, it was only a minority of staff who acted this way. Yes, they did drive away good players, which had a ripple effect.

noooooooooooooooo it doesn't. nyr was a necessary condition, not a sufficient condition, ghaatfly. there are still plenty of bums in the bush. and even so, that's still 25 players.

So what does it mean now that it's back to 209? Does it mean that people returned to test the waters, realized Nyr wasn't the cause of the problem, and slinked back away? Cause that'd mean a lot of people here were wrong in blaming the game's ills on Nyr's active participation and insisting that the problems would resolve if he left. Any one problem or person doesnt just drive people away or open the door for the player to come back. Whether you call Arm a hobby, addition, or love affair, the actions of an admin can sour people on the relationship to the game. That isnt as easily healed, but when any of these people come back, they inevitably poke their friends about coming back too. Nyr's leaving (or laying low) will take longer to evaluate.

You should stop listening to Scrooge and the autistic chart posse and jump back into the game. All of you. Hell, even that guy.

You really believe we thought Nyr leaving would have solved all the problems in the game?
Let me put it to you this way... Pharoah has been dead for a long time, but the pyramids are still around. What's made has to be un-made, and it can only be fixed if people who want better are able to do so.
There has been a construction of precedent, hidden rules, and bad blood that will take years of good administration to repair; that is, if he doesn't come back. If he does, it's back to square one.

It doesn't matter if nyr was really to blame for anything at all or if he was merely a scapegoat. You do not earn a reputation as awful as his without doing something wrong, somewhere. Not even a classic contrarian such as yourself can dare to try and say nyr was a polite poster who always had respect and decency for fellow players close to heart. These were not only not his defining qualities, he was the very antithesis of these things. In other words, he was so dickheaded to others that he carved his own reputation....and in so doing became the blame for all of arm's ills (even if it's not his fault at all). I don't have sympathy for such people nor am I eager to leap to their defence when accused of something they did not do.

I chalk it up to having ever-declining interest in continuing to be a contrarian but still wanting to take an occasional shit in public.

hey did u guys ever consider that maybe arm is dying because it is the year of our lord 2015? it's a fucking MUD for fuck's sake, it's not exactly a thriving niche of games.
nyr was problematic but arm's issues go much deeper.

Nah. Considering their massive turnover, it looks like there are a lot of people out there who would like to play a good MUD and are amazed to find the software stayed in the 1980s.
