The problem is you're hiding behind the veil of "but it's on your neck,!!!!!" It makes no sense for you to fall on your neck in the first place. Do you understand the significance of 1 in 20 odds? You would be unable to climb Everest without falling on your neck 100 different times. That's nonsensical and that's bad gameplay design. You defending that is the problem.

There's so many ways to fall that aren't your neck. In my experience with falling (happened more than some might think) my adrenaline-fueled brain went "Oh shit! Not my neck or head! Break an arm if you have to! Just not that!". Generally it takes one nasty fall on your head before your brain goes, uh, yeah, we are SO not letting this happen again.

Yeah I decided to toe the line by calling attention to the administrative failures of people who are coincidently no longer on the staff team.
You can say I deserve it if you want, but the public polling shows the game is better off now.

The problem is you're hiding behind the veil of "but it's on your neck,!!!!!" thats because it is on ur neck, or wherever else u want to say to justify u having that rare freak fall accident It makes no sense for you to fall on your neck in the first place. Do you understand the significance of 1 in 20 odds? You would be unable to climb Everest without falling on your neck 100 different times. That's nonsensical and that's bad gameplay design. You defending that is the problem. falling on ur head from a short distance is not at all nonsensical, unrealistic, or bad design - especially if those increased odds reflect the fact that u fucking suck at climbing and have the grip of a toddler. if the frequency is ur main bitch tho apparently thats been looked at and tweaked. but knocking urself the fuck out from a short distance freak fall is something that is neither unrealistic ror should be out of the range of possibility for anyone to face

I want you to go out and climb a tree every day for the next hundred days or so. If you don't knock yourself out at least 5 times then I'm sorry but what you're talking is unrealistic.

How about a falling skill? Falling is a lot different than climbing. There's rolls, breakfalls, etc., which can dramatically alter your chances of survival or even walking away unharmed from a nasty fall... meanwhile, the guy with no/novice fall skill can just stiffarm the ground or faceplant.

I can get behind that. You're not the problem with Armageddon after all.

fuck the realism. Fact of the matter, it puts climb to be one of those skills that unless you have it at 80, + climb gear, then you shouldnt climb at all. Because one single crit fail of a 'traveling skill', will let you 100 day character instantly die.
I mean if that skill made you somehow awesome, or gave you significant advantage over something, I get it. But that skill's main purpose is to allow your character to 'get' to places.
Yeah, it's realistic. If you dont excel at climbing, dont go climbing mount everest. Even if it means that the RPT your entire clan is going to will have to go without you. Or even better. If it means that there 'isn't' any RPT, because you've only got 1-2 rangers who have the climb, and you need ... 8 people?

jkarr the original climb code made no sense in the context of how the game handled damage. a climb critfail from one room was more dangerous than a warrior with an obsidian blade hitting someone in the unarmored head for max damage. sure is, but stun code is a bitch and if ur falling from any reasonable distance (a matter of feet even) onto ur neck, u should get fucked up period and poss knocked out unless ur tough as hell and werent trying to be guarding/scanning/watching/waying ur fuckbudy midway up the wall. anyone that isnt also bitching about being able to be knocked out in a few hits, barefisted, while wearing a helmet has no leg to stand on to argue about how unrealistic it is to get knocked the fuck out after critfailing a climb and landing a freakshow fall within a story's distance onto ur -neck- no one cares about barefisted because the only time it's a concern is when you're unarmed and fighting someone unarmed....which pretty much only happens in sparring. there's a shit ton of the world gated around climb, a skill that is risky to skill up and difficult for organizations to train for ICly. why? let's be realistic here it's not making it "much more" dangerfree. most of the shit that has these climb checks is also behind tough mobs. we've already shown how inconsistent climb's fails were with regards to consistency of damage code in arm, so what game mechanics justification is there to have climb's failures so inconsistently tuned with the risk vs reward aspect? imo the tuning of climb, where a fail yields lag and movement drain, is plenty enough where it's still a useful skill and meets an appropriate risk vs rewards level.

Heh, then go free climb a sheer surface. Make sure an ambulance is on hand! Woah buddy, you're bringing in a false equivalency here. You see, it doesn't matter about the difficulty of the climb, the actual height, or your familiarity with this technique or actual experience climbing. The only thing that matters codedly is what value the RNG gives you to make you fall on your neck. What's the RNG value in real life? That's the question here.

Nah, dude. I'm not climbing any trees on Arm. Tell you what. Go to the second story window of your house or apartment building, hang from it and then let go. I'm not arguing for or against any changes that were made, I'm only saying that you're probably understating the impact of a one room fall. It's not something you'd volunteer for. I jumped out of a second story window wearing a darth Vader mask when I was a teenager. I fell into a bush and (re)broke my hand in the fall.
