Stormlight Archive series: The Way of Kings, The Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson (very very good read) Mistborn Trilogy: Brandon Sanderson (his early work, strong plot, but his writing style was not developed well at the time)
The First Law trilogy by Joe Abercombie (very very good read)
The book of the New Sun, a 4 book serie by Gene Wolfe: I find his Sci-Fi ideas great, but he hides his best in the details which is not always trivial to find. So if you are not a fan of reading half the book twice or so, you may not like it.
The King Killer Chronicle by Patrick Rothfus: The Name of the Wind and the Wise Man's Fear (very good read)

Mmmm...Joe Abercrombie! Much love for him!
Just about to start the 4th Demon Cycle book by mister Peter V Brett. I am a little scared to start as the ending for the last one was so decisive!

Just finished:
1. Way of the Knife - a really good book about the militarization of the CIA.
2. From Midnight to Guntown - a book about a federal prosecutor in Mississippi.
3. The Dark Art - decent book about what the DEA's been up to globally when it comes to drug policy. Limited perspective - told from an agent's viewpoint - but still an interesting book.

www.amazon.com/Leviathan-Wakes-James-S-A-Corey/dp/0316129089A sci-fi set in the not so distant future, a fair bit realistic. No magical cause 'science' tech. Human society is divided among people who still live on Earth, An independent Mars, and the often subjugated people of the Belt (those who live beyond or within the asteroid belt on various asteroids or moons). Great book, SyFy channel seems to be making a half decent show out of it. But I really recommend the book if you're into science fiction.

I'm on the second book of the Ouroboros Cycle. I'm not into vampire books usually, especially of the Anne Rice/Twilight variety. But this ones a badass, part detective, part killer, part mom. I'm loving the combination so far.

Finished this last night. Basically, it's about how my home state used a network of secret police agencies to undermine the Civil Rights Movement in Mississippi. It's rather narrow in scope but shocking all the same to see how they used the very same tactics in the modern day Drug War to undermine and sabotage integration. Where the book falls short the most is by leading the reader to think that, with the end of the Mississippi Sovereignty Commission, government agencies used to crack down on dissent simply vanished into mid-air. They didn't, though. Almost immediately after the dissolution of the Mississippi Soveriengty Commission, the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics was created. There is but a mere two year gap. What happened... is they realized they could no longer go after political dissidents based on race alone; the murder of people like Medgar Evers and MLK made that impossible. instead, they created the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, which quickly became one of the most horrific domestic spying agencies known to the United States of America. Compare Mississippi's overall incarceration rate of 1200 per 100,000 to China's 200ish per every 100,000... To Russia's 400 per 100,000. What do I know about any of this shit? i was a fucking English teacher who they dragged of my house in fucking wrist and ankle shackles after being put under investigation and surveillance for a PLANT. My but if you think it's about a plant, you're one naive son of a bitch: it's about brutally, in a very public fashion, crushing any shred or evidence of dissent. You would think that we may have learned our lesson, but really, only the names of the organizations have been changed to protect the federal government's right to crush those who it wishes to. What we have to show for it are more people lacking freedom than there were in 1859, and it is a farce, a complete mockery of freedom... The epitome of hypocrisy... And it has went on for so long because good people have done - nor said - anything to make it change.

I just finished the two books in the Kingkiller Chronicle by Patrick Rothfuss. I was pretty sad when I went to download the third one and it's not finished yet. So now, I've moved on to the Wildcard series, it's credited under G.R.R Martin, but it's a mosaic novel. I haven't gotten to a Martin story yet.

I'm writing a story if anyone is interested. Up to chapter four, got the obligatory fighting out of the way so I can get back to character development. I haven't messed with the site layout so to read chapter one first you have to scroll to the near bottom. dumbthoughtssite.wordpress.com/Sort of sci-fi with a hint of cyberpunk.

I just read Body By Science. You kinda need a medical background to understand most of it, but I've been applying it, holy shit! It works good.
