It's more than likely stuck in a gray area, if anything.
Someone could write a book about endless orgies with five year olds, and it would be protected under the first amendment if someone tried to take it to court.
Real-world online predation "a-la Chris Hansen" involves a predator knowingly engaging in such talk with a minor they know to be a minor. On top of that, there's a reason the cops lure said predator to the home of the "minor", because the chat logs alone usually aren't enough to prosecute. Even then, a good chunk of those cases were dropped because entrapment is a thing.
Another thing to point out, the dude -knowingly- textfucking someone he -knows- to be a minor gets in trouble. Not the chat service.
Nobody's disagreeing with you on the principle that "simulating sex with minors is wrong"-- except maybe for Noticeable Adam's Apple since he admitted to being a pedophile on the first page.

This whole thread reminds me of the GDB with all its snark and ganging up on people.
I think this is a valid issue and the game policy should be to (1) point out to new players that there is a mix of older and younger players in the game so do not assume the other players are in your age group, (2) that it is always OK to fade to black, and (3) players younger than 16 should be required to fade to black. Of course the third point cannot be enforced, but it validates the decision by those players who don't feel ready to roleplay out sex.

This whole thread reminds me of the GDB that line never gets old. the gdb is about protecting Arm from criticism. this board isnt really about any specific thing. But typically it features subjecting arm to criticsm. Ths thread criticized Arm in a way many of the arm critics here (myself included) found unfair to arm. so we (the Arm critics) defnded arm from this particular criticism. Absolutely no part of that has a parallel on the gdb. |

It isn't just Arm that has been criticized. My entire way of life has come under fire as being "illegal" and "a federal crime".

Well it is just frustrating when all these people are saying that it's legal to simulate sexual acts with minors, and sorry, it's not. And if some little rich kid like Malken wants to vomit out some faux sympathy in between insulting me and my family, then well, I think it's fair to remind that little twit that he would never, ever speak to me like that in person. It is not legal to simulate sex with minors. It is also not ILlegal to simulate sex with anonymous entities whose identities you do not know. Your entire argument is based on an incorrect premise. In order for it to be a crime, the criminal has to have some general, minimal understanding that he is attempting to do something with a minor. Even if he doesn't think what he's doing is illegal, he does have to know that it's being done with a minor. Such as - in a chat room where the person he's cybering says "I'm a kid" and he thinks "oh yeah kid sex woot" - that would be illegal, if it turned out the kid really was a kid. In a mud - you're not cybering a person. Your CHARACTER is having sex with someone else's CHARACTER. Fiction is interacting with fiction. In order for that to be a crime, the minor would have to use the OOC command to inform the adult that he is, in fact, a minor. If he doesn't do that - then the adult has no reason to think, and is not responsible for expecting, that the person on the other side of that game client is a kid. Your problem is with the definition itself, not with the crime. Yes - child enticement IS a crime. However - that is not what is happening in Armageddon, so the point is moot. |

If this were a legitimate issue and there were real victims behind it, it might be worth dealing with, but it isn't. This is a middle aged "man" having some kind of personal crisis revolving around a game that devoured years and years of his (wasted) life.
There is no shortage of ammunition if he wants to go on a crusade against Arm without this unique brand of retarded.

Yeah, this thread is so monumentally retarded that I would recommend deleting it. It basically discredits this entire forum. No matter how valid past and future topics might be, someone would be able to point to this thread as "proof" that this forum is the desperate, baseless Arm pariah circle-jerk that staff want people to think it is. It undermines the whole community and its purpose.
