There are absolutely zero checks or controls that prevent an adult from sexually simulating acts with a minor on Arm right now.
But uhh if someone wants to sue me, then they can go right ahead. I don't think they will like what is said in court when everything gets put on Front Street, though.

Armageddon is notorious for monitoring its players, and if they have the capacity to do that, then they have the capacity to distinguish minors from adults.
As far as I know, they make no attempts at even deterring this sort of shit, aside from "consent," which as someone pointed out, isn't even legally applicable to minors.

Eh... they have the abilty to monitor people within their game. that doesnt automatically translate to being able to establish the RL identities of the players in real-time. or at all. And I don't really have solutions.
Then again, whenever Nyr or Vanth fucked with me, they didn't offer solutions. It was just like, bam, you're wrong, fuck you, have a nice day.
How they fix their problems, well, that's on them. They never gave me any help or encouragement or pointers when they saw me doing something that they perceived as "wrong"... Always instant punishment with almost nothing else said about the matter.

well yeah. But they were able to perceive it at all. knowing someone's real age when all youve got is telnet is really fuckng hard. As much as I bash arm for what it's not doing, i limit myself to complainng about the possible.
i can't think of any foolproof way they can do it. and all of the foolable ways require people to pay to play.

Simulating sexual acts with a minor is a crime that occurs on a regular basis on Arm, but instead of policing things like that, they arbitrarily police new players and people they don't like.
I mean, you don't have to take that seriously, but that doesn't make it any less fucked up.

I mean, they might not be convenient or foolproof, but there are ways. I mean, you have to show an ID to get into an R-rated movie when you're young, and that's way less intense than graphic depictions of sexual intercourse. I genuinely don't think young players are emotionally put together or mature enough to engage in psychological, sexual relationships with people up to three times their age. Regardless of the people posting here or how I've framed my argument, or any bias you may have toward me for things I've written, well... I feel pretty confident that a lot of people would be in firm agreement with me, outside of the ArmageddonMUD community. |
