I'm feeling a bit too spicy to respond to you without aplomb. Instead, have a smiley.

Never. Like every other person who claims their potential work is better than something else, but never seems to get around to doing it. I suppose it's better to dream than not at all though. So everyone can keep up their hopes. I pretty specifically said I was unwilling to do it because of the social commitment. It wasn't procrastination, Procrastination. (This also answers ghost)

Merc is a great codebase. In fact I think SOI/Harshlands were based off of MERC. Honestly the simplest and least complicated codebase has to be DIKU. DIKU started it all and it's still one of the most stable codebases in existence. There are better alternatives for an RPI of course you have the RPI engine (which is a huge mess, full of memory leaks and bugs). So it all depends if you want I have an old DIKU code heavily modified by Rob Peckham called SwordQuest. It was a great codebase and it was the original code I used for Darksun but it's very simple and didn't have a lot of the features the RPI engine had so I scrapped it. I have a copy somewhere on my cloud I will check and see if Rob is okay with me releasing it first. You can release to whoever. I didn't actually realize my distribution page is down until I found this thread while randomly googling myself today... old webservers and all... I just found a backup and restored it. SQ is actually based on Merc 2.1, which IMO was the cleanest Merc release, but then I made it feel more like Diku (did the same thing on PKmud and my standard PVE game too). If anyone wants a copy... just email my name at the site in the next sentence. The distribution page is here: celemir.net/sq The magic isn't the codebase though, it's scenario design and administration... that's the main reason I never actually did anything with SQ, and just kept playing Arm.

Holy kank balls. Sup Rob. I remember you popping into Darksun and adding code periodically.
My favorite thing was if you did enough damage in SwordQuest you would rip off a limb. And there was one specific echo where if you were barehanded you would jam your fingers into their eyesockets and rip their face off.
When testing that code I remember the tavern looking like.
There is an arm lying here in a puddle of dried blood. The face of a human soldier lies here. Someone has misplaced their leg here.
Good times!
