...I still don't seem to get all the cool toys that I expected from being a mindbender, you know, like catching people's thoughts and feelings. Who knows, maybe the PCs (like myself) don't ever use think or feel. This is pretty much the case. About 95% of pcs think or feel less than 3x/rl week, out of all the ones I've ever monitored. So few use either, that when someone regularly used either of them, I would add them to a list of people to monitor for karma addition, tbh. And it's sad, because that makes a psion SO GODDAMN BORING to play. I had karma for one for over a year and never played one because I knew I'd get so little of these people's inner dialogues to play off of that it would be a damn snoozefest. Is it really that rare? I used to think/feel in almost every scene I was in. I even threw a think/feel into scenes where I was ambushed, as in one of the logs I posted on this forum. I always did it to cover my ass, in case I had to produce justification for something or some shit...owing to an previous encounter. I always assumed staff would misunderstand what I was doing or take it out of context, so I'd spell it out in thinks/feels. I even did it around the mindbender I killed.

I stopped using feels and bios for anything critical after Qoriya nuked a character of mine for the 2nd time. That pc was an unmanifested rukkian who didnt know he was a mage. He was about 20 min out of chargen, browsing shops, when she had him picked up, questioned for about 15 min, and summarily executed. At least I got some rp, right?

Yes, it's really that rare. It was horribly disappointing to find that out because I use them a lot myself, and expected everyone did, but could not have been more wrong. Think/feel use is like the opposite of mudsex. Everyone claims to do it but no one does. With mudsex, more than half the pbase does, and most people claim not to.

Until a Staff starts animating a rat in the Gaj, then everyone starts thinking/feeling/moonwalking like mad.

Until a Staff starts animating a rat in the Gaj, then everyone starts thinking/feeling/moonwalking like mad. Not gonna lie about it, but if you were already solo emoting and thinking/feeling while you were alone, I was about 10x more likely to send you an echo/animation. Here's hoping the guy who was foraging at the kzul bush off Guar Pandu north of Tuluk recalls those animated ants after he started emoted about finding a palmful of them. lol. That is my thing. If you were playing the game by skill and nothing else, I got bored watching and stopped seeing you salt your thousandth feel/think/emote-less crystal. If you were immersed and making some effort to take the world into account around you, that was where I had fun animating. Well, that and the vnpc burglar Rissa caught escaping her apartment... that was when Nyr started hating me. I made her "manifest" by hearing the vnpcs thoughts. He wouldn't have fuck all to do with me after that.

I always found solo-rp a good time to develop my charactr. It's one of the reasons I agreed with sirra that backgrounds should be optional.

Yep, it was Rissa, his psion, in 2011. I'm still not sure why, but that's the impression I got as a ST, in that once I rotated to staff under him (a few RL weeks later), he more or less started vetoing and trying to stonewall anything I tried to do. So if it wasn't that, he either disliked me from the start, or that's how he often is with ST's who work under him. I know she reacted poorly to it. Which is sad, because they didn't even take any of her stuff. She comes in, he flees out the (uncoded but written into the room desc) window, she starts hearing his thoughts while he's right outside trying to get away.

I stopped using think/feel when admin attention began to be a bad thing.

Ive always been a big fan of think and feel. Thinkng to yourself is a great way to casually develop your charactr's personality. And it's also useful for puttng the justification/motive for your actions into to log naturally, which is good for you and any staffr watching you. Feel is like a feedback loop to remnd you how you should be feeling.
Plus Ive always been a fan of playing fair. If a mindbender should be able to hear my thoughts or catch my mood, I should be throwng them out there to get caught.

This is why I never play secret mages in Tuluk post manifesting. That was a mistake the first time. One you don't usually repeat unless you're a horrible sadist.

Unless you play in Tuluk, then fuck that. I'm not gonna get my character killed because he had the nerve to think that Qoriya's blue shirt didn't really matched her red skirt today.
